 (c)
Response of the autoslat control valve and the leading edge slats to the computer under test is verified by pressurizing the B hydraulic system, selecting flap positions 1, 2, or 5, placing the nose air/ground relay in the air mode, and then pressing the H LEG TEST and C LEG TEST buttons simultaneously. Operation is verified by observing that the slats extend and the AUTO EXT light comes on while the two buttons are pressed.

COIL circuit breaker

 (a)
A one amp autoslat valve coil circuit breaker provides protection from short circuits in the coil or in the wiring between the computer and the coil. The coil monitor will turn on the SELF MONITOR light if the circuit breaker trips or is manually opened.

 D.
Automatic Self-Test Feature

 (1)
An automatic self-test is performed in the air when trailing edge flaps are moved from 10 degrees to 15 degrees or greater. This provides a once-per-flight automatic test of the autoslat system. A test pulse is applied to the hot and cold legs of each computer to command an autoslat extension. Since the leading edge slats are at full extension when trailing edge flaps are greater than 10 degrees, this self-test will not change wing configuration. However, any disagreement between the hot and cold legs of either computer will be detected by the coil monitor and the SELF MONITOR light will be turned on until reset on the ground.

 4.  Autoslat Flight Deck Indication (Fig. 2)_______________________________
 A.  Autoslat operation modifies the usual function of the LE FLAPS EXT and LE FLAPS TRANSIT indicator lights on the P2 center instrument panel. When the autoslats are not in operation, the LE FLAPS TRANSIT light comes on and the LE FLAPS EXT light goes off while the leading edge devices are extending or retracting. The LE FLAPS TRANSIT light indicates that the LE devices are not in the position corresponding to the TE devices. During an autoslat extension in the air, the autoslat computer keeps the LE FLAPS TRANSIT light off and allows the LE FLAPS EXT light to remain on.

 B.  An amber AUTO SLAT FAIL light in the flight controls module on the P5 overhead panel provides failure annunciation for the autoslat system. A fault signal that both autoslat computers are disabled will immediately turn on the AUTO SLAT FAIL light, and will also turn on the FLT CONT and MASTER CAUTION lights on the P7 glareshield panel. Pressing the master caution reset will turn off the FLT CONT and MASTER CAUTION lights, but the AUTOSLAT FAIL light will remain on to indicate that the autoslat system is not functional.
 C.  A fault signal that one autoslat computer is disabled or any alpha COMPARE HI or LO fault signal will turn on the AUTOSLAT FAIL light only when the master caution recall button is pressed. The AUTOSLAT FAIL light can then be turned off by pressing the master caution reset button.
 5.  Autoslat Control Valve (Fig. 3)______________________
 A.  The autoslat control valve ports pressure to extend the LE slats when it is activated by either autoslat computer. The valve is located in the the aft end of the right ram air duct bay. It is accessed for servicing through the right underwing fairing access panel.
 B.  The valve has two control solenoids, one connected to autoslat computer No. 1 and the other to computer No. 2. The valve is opened if either or both solenoid coils are energized.
 C.  The valve is normally closed and does not affect the operation of the leading edge slats. If either solenoid is energized, system B hydraulic pressure is ported from the intermediate extend hydraulic line to the full extend side of the slat actuators. This moves the slats to the full extend position if they were at the intermediate extend position.
 D.  The valve has two stages. A first stage valve is opened by either solenoid. This first stage valve ports hydraulic pressure to open a second stage valve which ports the intermediate extend pressure to the full extend side of the slat actuators. When the solenoid is de-energized, a spring returns the valve to its closed position.
 6.  Operation (Fig. 4)_________
 A.  Functional Description
 (1)  The leading edge flaps and slats are controlled by the trailing edge flap system. When trailing edge flaps are fully retracted, the leading edge flap and slat control valve is closed and the leading edge flap and slat actuators are held in the retracted position by system B hydraulic pressure. When trailing edge flaps are extended to the 1, 2, or 5 degree position, the control valve moves to the intermediate extend position so that the leading edge slats move to the intermediate extend position and the leading edge flaps fully extend. When trailing edge flaps are extended to the 10 degree position and beyond, the control valve is fully opened. Hydraulic pressure is ported to fully extend all leading edge slats.
