During the slat extension or retraction tests, chatter or vibration of the surfaces at low hydraulic pressures is usual.Carefully monitor the leading edge clearances. Make sure that the area is clean and the profiles are accurate.The control valve of the leading edge flap is correctly adjusted if you get this condition with the flaps hydraulically retracted (Fig. 502):
 (a)  
The valve slide aligns with the index surface to |0.010 inch. 1) If it does not, adjust the leading edge link in the right

 wheel well.The leading edge flaps are correctly adjusted if you get this condition with the LE flaps extended (Fig. 503):

 (a)
The flap nose touches the pads on the flap panel.The leading edge flaps are correctly adjusted if you get these conditions with the LE flaps hydraulically retracted (Fig. 504):

 (a)  
For the trailing edge of each flap that does not align correctly with the wing structure, the tolerance are as follows: 1) A tolerance of |0.02 inch is permitted for 50 percent of


 the span. 2) For the remaining 50 percent of the span, a tolerance of |0.04 inch (at the leading edge station (LES) 84.70 to
 113.00 and 174.00 to 193.00) or |0.05 inch (at LES station
 113.00 to 174.00) is permitted.
 (b)  
The distance between the leading edge flap and the lower wing

 surface is 0.09 |0.03 inch.The leading edge flaps are correctly adjusted if you get these conditions:

 (a)  
The distance between the adjacent flaps is 0.06 to 0.15 inch at all positions of the leading edge flaps.

 (b)  
There is a clearance between the flap nose and the structure

 and equipment on retraction.The leading edge slats are correctly adjusted if you get these conditions with the slats hydraulically retracted (Fig. 505):

 (a)  
For the slat lower trailing edge that does not align with the fixed leading edge, the tolerance of |0.02-inch (for 75% of the span) and |0.04-inch (for 25% of the span) are permitted.

 (b)  
The cover plate of the main track does not align with the bottom surface of the fixed leading edge to a limit of |0.02 inch.
