 1.  General_______
 A.  There are two tasks in this procedure. There is a task for the removal and a task for the installation of a flap torque tube. These are general procedures which apply to all of the torque tubes on the airplane.
 B.  The flap torque tubes attach to the parts of the flap drive system with the coupling sleeves on each end of the torque tubes. The coupling sleeves have splines.
 C.  The torque tube between the outboard flap transmissions has two parts. The flap position transmitter is installed between the two parts. The transmitter operates as a support bearing near the middle of the torque tube.
 D.  The torque tube between the inboard flap outboard transmission and the flap angle gearbox has two parts. There is a three bolt flange connection between the two parts.

Procedure


 S 014-002
 (1)  
Remove the inboard flap track fairing if it is necessary to get access to the torque tube (Ref 27-51-32/401).

 (2)  
Pressurize the hydraulic system B (Ref 27-51-00/201).

 (3)  
Move the flap control lever to the 40-unit detent to extend the flaps.

 (4)  
Release the pressure in the hydraulic system B (Ref 27-51-00/201).

 (5)  
Install a support to hold the flap while the torque tubes are disconnected.

If you will remove a torque tube in the wing, remove the torque tube guard.

Remove the torque tube:

 (a)  
Remove the three screws that attach the coupling sleeves to the spline coupling.

 (b)  
Move the coupling sleeves off the coupling to disconnect the torque tubes.

 (c)  
If the torque tube is between the inboard flap transmission and the angle gearbox, disconnect the two parts of the torque tube: 1) Disconnect the three bolts, washers and nuts at the flange

 connection.

 (d)  
Remove the torque tube from the airplane.

Install the flap torque tube:

 (a)  
Put the torque tube in its position in the airplane.
