Measure the movement of the midflap carriage:

 (a)  
Manually move the carriage forward and aft.

 (b)  
Measure the axial movement of the carriage.

 NOTE: Make sure the midflap does not move during the

 measurement.

If the axial movement is more than 0.005 inch, do this task to replace the carriage bearing: "Outboard Midflap Carriage Removal" (Ref 27-51-44/401).

Install the access panel:

 (a)  
Apply a layer of the sealant between the surfaces of the access panel and the midflap.

 (b)  
Install the access panel with the fasteners.

Do this task to pressurize hydraulic system B: "Supply Hydraulic Power" (Ref 27-51-00/201).

Put the flap control lever in the UP detent to retract the flaps.

Measure the parts on the actuator mechanism for the exhaust gate (Fig. 602):

 (a)  
Remove the parts.

 (b)  
Use a micrometer to measure the parts.

 (c)  
Compare the dimensions you measured with the permitted dimensions shown in Fig. 602.

 (d)  
Replace the parts that are not in the tolerance.
