 At the inboard end of the midflap, examine the clearances between the roller and the fairing track:

 (a)  
Make sure there is a clearance between the roller and the top and bottom surfaces of the fairing track. 1) If the roller touches the top or bottom surface of the

 fairing track, adjust the roller: a) Remove the two bolts that attach the locking plate for the roller shaft. b) Turn the eccentric shaft until there is a clearance between the roller and the fairing track.

 (b)  
Use modeling clay to measure the clearance between the inboard end of the roller and the face of the fairing track.

 (c)  
Make sure the clearance is 0.04 to 0.20 inch.


 1)  If the clearance is not in the tolerance, adjust the roller: a) Remove the nut from the outboard end of the roller
 shaft. b) Add or remove the washers (Type AN960JD916) to adjust the clearance. c) Install the nut on the roller shaft.

 Retract the flaps if it is necessary:

 (a)  
Do this task to pressurize hydraulic system B: "Supply Hydraulic Power" (AMM 27-51-00/201).

 (b)  
Move the flap control lever to the UP position to retract the flaps.

 (c)  
Do this task to depressurize hydraulic system B: "Remove Hydraulic Power" (AMM 27-51-00/201).

 Make sure the lower trailing edge of the wing and the midflap are aligned in the limits shown on Fig. 502.

 (a)  
If the wing and the midflap are not in the limits, adjust the wing lower surfaces until they are aligned as near as it is possible: 1) Adjust the tie rods on the trailing edge panel and the


 lower panel angle support to align the wing and the lower surface of the midflap.

 Examine the compression of the seals on the flap (Fig. 502):

 (a)  
Make sure the seal on the lower trailing edge of the wing is compressed to 30 to 50 percent by the midflap.

 (b)  
Make sure the clearance between the seal support on the lower trailing edge of the wing and the midflap is 0.06 to 0.12 inch.

 (c)  
If the compression or the clearance is not in the tolerance, adjust the seal support: 1) Loosen the screws on the seal support. 2) Move the seal support to get the clearance in the


 tolerance. 3) Tighten the screws on the seal support. 4) Fill the clearance between the skin and the seal support
 with the sealant.

 Adjust the preload pad for the flap ballscrew (Fig. 505):

 (a)  
Remove the aft fairing if it is necessary.

 (b)  
Remove the preload pad from the aftflap.

 (c)  
Put the flap control lever in the UP detent to retract the flaps.

 (d)  
Measure the dimension B.

 (e)  
If dimension B is not in the limits shown on Fig. 505, adjust the shims: 1) Put the flap control lever in the 40-unit detent to extend


 the flaps. 2) Hold the weight of the flap. 3) Remove the retaining bolts for the horizontal gimbal
 bushings and remove the bushing (Fig. 504). 4) Move the shim laminations between the horizontal bushings until dimension B is in the tolerance (Fig. 505).
 NOTE: A 0.003-inch shim lamination will change the
____
 dimension B 0.0167 inch.

 a)  Make sure you keep the 0.006 to 0.010 inch clearance between one bushing and the gimbal with contact at the opposite side.
 5) Install the retaining bolts for the gimbal bushing. 6) Tighten the bolts to 60-85 pound-inches.
 (f)  With the flaps extended, make sure the clearance between the end fitting of the ballscrew and the midflap is a minimum of
 0.03 inch.
 (g)  If the clearance is not in the tolerance, adjust the shims on the vertical bushings for the ballscrew nut (Fig. 504): 1) Hold the weight of the flap. 2) Remove the retaining bolts for the vertical gimbal bushing.
