Remove the transmission:

 (a)  
Remove the four bolts that attach the transmission to the flap track.

 (b)  
Turn the transmission 180 degrees forward and up.

 (c)  
Move the transmission aft until it is clear of the structure and remove it from the airplane.

Prepare to Install the Flap Transmission
 S 434-027
 (1)  
On an outboard transmission or an inboard flap inboard transmission, attach the ballscrew to the transmission if it is necessary (Fig. 401):

 (a)  
Apply a layer of the BMS 5-95 sealant to the mating surfaces of the ballscrew and the transmission.

 (b)  
Put the ballscrew in its position on the transmission universal joint.

 (c)  
Install the two bolts, washers and nuts to attach the ballscrew to the universal joint.

 (d)  
Tighten the bolts to 60-85 pound-inches.

 (e)  
Apply a layer of the BMS 5-95 sealant to the bolts, washers and nuts.

 (2)  
Fill the transmission with the hydraulic fluid:

 (a)  
Put the transmission in the correct position.

 (b)  
Fill the transmission to the level of the filler port with the hydraulic fluid.

 (c)  
Manually turn the input shaft and continue to fill the transmission until the fluid level is stable.

 (3)  
Make sure the clearance between the ballscrew nut and the ballscrew yoke is in the tolerance:

 (a)  
Turn the ballscrew nut until the upstop touches the upstop on the ballscrew yoke (Fig. 402):

 (b)  
Make sure the clearance between the end of the upstop on the ballscrew nut and the adjacent surface of the yoke is in the limit of 0.064 |0.035 inch (Fig. 403):


Install an Outboard Transmission
 S 424-030
 (1)  
Attach the transmission to the flap track (Fig. 401):

 (a)  
Put the transmission in its position on the flap track.

 (b)  
Put the ballscrew through the gimbal and make sure the clamp-up bolt is forward on the gimbal.

THIS DIMENSION IS BETWEEN THE FACE OF THE SCREW YOKE AND THE FORWARD END OF THE UPSTOP ON THE BALL NUT. THIS DIMENSION IS SEEN ONLY WHEN:
1.
 THE SCREW IS CORRECTLY ATTACHED TO THE SCREW YOKE

2.
 THE UPSTOPS ON THE BALL NUT AND SCREW YOKE ARE IN CONTACT
