Remove the spindle bearing (Fig. 801):
(a)
Install a support to hold the trailing edge of the midflap.
(b)
Remove the bolts that attach the carriage bearing support to the midflap.
(c)
Measure the thickness of the shims below the carriage bearing support.

APPLY A BEAD OF THE SEALANT BETWEEN THE
SPINDLE AND THE BEARING INNER RACE.
DO NOT GET SEALANT ON THE BEARING.

(d) Remove the nut, washers, bearing and bearing inner race from the spindle.
S 168-007
(6) Remove the sealant from the spindle and the other parts.
S 428-008
(7) Install the spindle bearing: (a) Apply a layer of the sealant to the spindle, and the inner part of the bearing race. (b) Install the bearing inner race on the spindle. (c) Clean all excess sealant from the aft end of the spindle. (d) Install the bearing on the inner race. (e) Install the washer and the nut on the spindle. (f) Tighten the nut to 800-1100 pound-inches. (g) Install the clevis pin through the nut and the spindle. 1) Install the thin washers if it is necessary to align the holes in the nut and the spindle. 2) Tighten the nut. (h) Install the cotter pin in the clevis pin.

(8) Apply a bead of the sealant between the bearing and forward end of the spindle.

(9) Apply a thick layer of the grease to the hole in the carriage bearing support and on the bearing.

Install the carriage bearing support:
(a)
Put the carriage bearing support in its position on the spindle.
(b)
Install the correct thickness of the shims below the carriage bearing support.
NOTE: If you do not know the correct thickness of the shims,
____ refer to 27-51-34/501 to find the correct shims.
(c)
Install the bolts, washers and nuts to attach the carriage bearing support.
(d)
Tighten the 1/4 inch nuts to 50-70 pound-inches.
(e)
Tighten the 5/15 inch nuts 100-140 pound-inches.
