 3) Remove the bushings until you can remove the shims. 4) Adjust the shim laminations until the clearance is in the tolerance.
 NOTE: Make sure you keep the 0.006 to 0.010 inch clearance____ between the bushing and the ballscrew nut with contact at the opposite side.
 (h) (i) (j) (k) (l)  5) Install the bolts in the vertical gimbal bushings.Put the flap control lever in the UP detent to retract the flaps.During the retraction, make sure the ballscrew does not touch the linkage or the structure.Measure dimension A: 1) With the flaps retracted, apply a force up on the aftflap. 2) Measure dimension A.Put the flap control lever in the 1-unit position to extend the flaps.Install the preload pad for the flap ballscrew: 1) Install the preload pad with the shims. 2) On airplanes with the horizontally adjustable preload pads for the No. 2 and 7 ballscrews:
 Make sure the preload pad is centered below the ballscrew. 3) Make sure the dimension C for the No. 1 and 8 ballscrews is the same as the dimension A minus 0.52 to 0.56 inch.
 (m) (n) (o)  4) Make sure the dimension C for the No. 2 and 7 ballscrews is the same as the dimension A plus 0.04 to 0.08 inch. 5) If the dimension C is larger than the permitted dimension, adjust the vertical clearance between the ballscrew and the aftflap.Put the flap control lever in the UP detent.Make sure the end fitting on the ballscrew goes into the preload pad before the flap is fully retracted.Make sure the end fitting on the ballscrew touches the preload pad tightly when the flaps are fully retracted.

 With the flaps retracted, examine the seal between the lower trailing edge of the midflap and the aftflap (Fig. 502):

 (a)  
Make sure the seal is compressed 10 to 30 percent.

 (b)  
If the seal is not compressed in the limits, adjust the position of the seal retainer: 1) Loosen the screws that attach the seal retainer. 2) Adjust the position of the seal retainer. 3) Tighten the screws on the seal retainer.

 Examine the clearance between the A frame and the flap track and carriage at flap positions 1 thru 10:

 (a)  
Put the flap control lever in the applicable detent to move the flaps.

 (b)  
Manually lift the flaps until the flight rollers touch the flap track.
