 (10)
Measure the clearance between the leading edge of the aftflap and the midflap.

 (a)
Make sure the clearance is 0.01-0.20 inch (Section A-A, Fig. 501).

 (b)
If the clearance is not in the tolerance, adjust the length of the aftflap pushrods.

 S 225-011
 (11)
Measure the preload of the fairing against the bottom of the flap:

 (a)
Apply a 200-pound (91 kilogram) weight to preload the aft fairing assemblies: 1) Put a strap across the top of the aft fairing assembly at

the line of fasteners for the tailcone. 2) Attach a 200 pound (91 kilogram) weight to the strap.

 (b)
Measure the clearance on the two sides of the fairing between the trailing edge of the aftflap and the top of the fairing (Section B-B):

NOTE: Measure the clearance to the top of the fairing, not to
____
 the bulb seal.

 1) Make sure the clearance is 0.20-0.30 inch. 2) If the clearance is not in the tolerance, adjust the A-frame of the fairing.
 S 825-012
 (12)
 Adjust the preload pads:

 (a)
Decrease the load on the fairing to 150 pounds (68 kilograms).

 (b)
Move the preload pads up, until they touch the midflap.

 (c)
Tighten the screws that attach the preload pads.

 (d)
Remove the strap and load from the fairings.

 S 225-017
 (13)
Make sure the clearance from the support arm to the flap track and the carriage is a minimum of 0.08 inch at all flap positions.

 S 435-013

 (14)
If it is necessary, tighten the nuts on the adjustable fairing support strut:

 (a)
Tighten the larger nuts to 30-50 pound-inches.

 (b)
Tighten the smaller nuts to 20-40 pound-inches.

 (c)
Install the lockwire on the nuts.

 (15)
Measure the clearance between the trailing edge of the aftflap and the top of the fairing again.

 (a)
If the clearance is not in the tolerance, adjust the fairing.

 S 215-015
 (16)
With the flaps retracted, examine the seal between the lower trailing edge of the midflap and the aftflap:

 (a)
Make sure the seal is compressed 10 to 30 percent.

 (b)
If the seal is not compressed in the limits, adjust the position of the seal retainer: 1) Loosen the screws that attach the seal retainer. 2) Adjust the position of the seal retainer. 3) Tighten the screws on the seal retainer.

 S 825-018
 (17) Make sure the bulb seals on the two sides of the fairing compress
 0.03 to 0.08 inch.
 (a)  If the seal compression is not in the tolerance, adjust the seal retainer.
 S 415-021
 (18)
Install the aft fairing on the center fairing.

 S 715-017

 (19)
For No. 1 or 8 fairing, do this task:  "Outboard Landing Light Test" (Ref 33-42-11/501).

 (20)
Put the flap control lever in the UP detent to retract the flaps.

 (21)
Do this task: "Depressurize Hydraulic System B" (Ref 27-51-00/201).
