 E. Procedure
 S 424-021
 (1)  
AIRPLANES PRE-SB 57-1065; Install the Shim Between the Wing Lower Skin and the Flap Track Support Fitting, If It Is Necessary

 (a)  
Inspect for delaminated or migrated shims between the flap track support fitting and the wing lower skin.

 (b)  
Remove any loose portions of the shim from beween the flap track support fitting and the wing lower skin, and clean the area.


 NOTE: The remaining portion of the laminated shim is
____ satisfactory for continued use if it is intact in the clamp-up area of the center attach bolt. The clamp-up area is the area within 0.05 inch beyond the washer of the center attach bolt.
 (c)  
Install solid aluminum fillers, to replace the missing portions of the laminated shim, with wet BMS 5-95 sealant.

 (d)  
If the laminated shim is damaged within the clamp-up area, replace the shim with a new solid aluminum shim.


 NOTE: Fabricate the shim from 2024-T3 aluminum alloy sheet per
____ QQ-A-250/5. Thickness and taper should allow a maximum gap of 0.005 inch prior to tightening fastener. Apply a chemical film treatment (Alodine or Iridite) and finish with one coat of epoxy primer (Ref. BMS 10-11, Type I).

 (2)  
AIRPLANES POST-SB 57-1065; Install the Anti-Fret Strip and Tapered Shim If It Is Necessary

 (3)  
Install a new anti-fret strip if it is necessary (Fig. 401):

 (a)  
Remove the damaged anti-fret strip and the sealant from the lower surface of the wing.

 (b)  
Apply the primer to the lower surface of the wing.

 (c)  
Let the primer cure.

 (d)  
Bond the anti-fret strip to the lower surface of the wing with the sealant.


 NOTE: Install the flap track before the work life of the
____
 sealant is expired.

 (e)  
Apply a bead of the sealant around the anti-fret strip.

 (f)  
Remove all of the sealant from the lower surface of the anti-fret strip.

 (4)  Install a new tapered shim if it is necessary:
 NOTE: This procedure is not necessary if you know the original
____
 shim thickness.

 The thickness of the new shim must be the same as the one you removed. The decal on the rear spar, adjacent to the flap track, shows the necessary shim thickness. The anti-fret strip must be bonded to the wing before you install the shim.
 (a)  
Remove the tapered shim and the sealant from the top surface of the flap track.

 (b)  
Temporarily install the flap track: 1) Align the flap track with the forward support fitting. 2) Install the bushings, spacers, bolt, washer and nut. 3) BEJ 101-999;


 Tighten the nuts on the inboard and outboard flap tracks to 220-280 pound-inches.
 4)  BEJ 061-062; Tighten the nuts: a) On the inboard track, tighten the nut to 270-300
 pound-inches. b) On the outboard track, tighten the nut to 350-600
 pound-inches. 5) Put the flap track in its position. 6) Install the bushings, bolts, washers and nuts on the aft
