Measure the angular clearance between the upstop on the ballscrew nut and the upstop on the ballscrew (Fig. 402):
(a)
Make sure the angular clearance is 170 to 190 degrees (1/2 turn |10 degrees) (1/4 to 5/6 turn if you have made lateral trim corrections with the flaps).
(b)
Make a record of the angular clearance.

Supply the system B hydraulic power (Ref 27-51-00/201).

Move the flap control lever to the 40-unit detent to extend the flaps.

Remove the system B hydraulic power (Ref 27-51-00/201).

Install a support to hold the flaps when the transmissions are removed.

Remove an Outboard Transmission (No. 1, 2, 7 or 8)

Disconnect the ballscrew nut from the gimbal (Fig. 402):
(a)
Remove the four bolts from the top and bottom surface of the gimbal to remove the gimbal bushings. 1) Remove the top and bottom gimbal bushings from the gimbal. 2) Make a record of the location and thickness of the shims.

Disconnect the torque tubes from the flap transmission (Fig. 401):
(a)
Remove the screws that attach the coupling sleeve to the coupling on the transmission.
(b)
Move the coupling sleeves off the coupling.
(c)
Disconnect the torque tube from the coupling.

(3) If it is necessary, remove the two cross bolts between the universal joint and the ballscrew upstop to disconnect the ballscrew from the transmission.
