 6) Install the correct shims between the carriage bearing
 support and the midflap. 7) Apply a layer of the sealant on the shims. 8) Install the bolts that attach the carriage bearing support
 to the midflap. 9) Tighten the 1/4 inch nuts to 50-70 pound-inches. 10) Tighten the 5/16 inch nuts to 100-140 pound-inches.
 CAUTION: REMOVE THE PRELOAD PAD ON THE FLAP BALLSCREW IF YOU
_______ INCREASED THE THICKNESS OF THE SHIMS BELOW THE CARRIAGE BEARING SUPPORT. A CHANGE IN THE SHIM THICKNESS WILL CHANGE THE ADJUSTMENT OF THE PRELOAD PAD. AN INCORRECT ADJUSTMENT CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE PRELOAD PAD.
 11) If you increased the thickness of the shims, remove the preload pad. 12) Make sure the deflection of the leaf spring is 0.42 to 0.82
 inch. 13) Adjust the flap track fairing (Ref 27-51-52/501). 14) Do the adjustment of the trailing edge of the aftflap
 again.
 (n)  
Install the access panels at the top trailing edge of the midflap: 1) Apply the sealant to the access panels and the midflap. 2) Install the access panels.

 Pressurize the hydraulic system B (Ref 27-51-00/201).

 With the flaps retracted, examine the seal between the lower trailing edge of the midflap and the aftflap (Fig. 401).

 (a)  
Make sure the seal is compressed 10 to 30 percent.

 (b)  If the seal is not compressed in the limits, adjust the position of the seal retainer: 1) Loosen the screws that attach the seal retainer. 2) Adjust the position of the seal retainer. 3) Tighten the screws on the seal retainer.

 Adjust the preload pad for the flap ballscrew (Fig. 403):

 (a)  
Remove the aft fairing if it is necessary.

 (b)  
Remove the preload pad from the aftflap.

 (c)  
Put the flap control lever in the UP detent to retract the flaps.

 (d)  
Measure the dimension B.

 (e)  
If dimension B is not in the limits shown on Fig. 403, adjust the shims: 1) Put the flap control lever in the 40-unit detent to extend


 the flaps. 2) Hold the weight of the flap. 3) Remove the retaining bolts for the horizontal gimbal
 bushings and remove the bushing. 4) Move the shim laminations until dimension B is in the tolerance (Fig. 403).
 NOTE: A 0.003-inch shim lamination will change the
____ dimension B 0.0167 inch.
 a)  Make sure you keep the 0.006 to 0.010 inch clearance between one bushing and the gimbal with contact at the opposite side.
 5) Install the retaining bolts for the gimbal bushing. 6) Tighten the bolts to 60-85 pound-inches.
 (f)  With the flaps extended, make sure the clearance between the end fitting of the ball screw and the midflap is a minimum of
 0.03 inch.
 (g)  If the clearance is not in the tolerance, adjust the shims for the vertical bushings for the the ballscrew nut: 1) Hold the weight of the flap. 2) Remove the bolts for the vertical gimbal bushings.
