Push the top fitting on the ballscrew nut to bleed the pressure.

 (b)  
Fill the ballscrew nut until the oil flows out through the top fitting.

 (c)  
Close the top fitting.

 (d)  
Continue to fill the ballscrew nut until the oil flows out through the wiper seals or the vent hole.

 (9)  
For Thomson Saginaw or Umbra Cuscinetti ballscrews, do the steps that follow:

 (a)  
Fill the ballscrew nut from the bottom fitting until the oil flows out through the wiper seals or the vent hole.

 Turn the ballscrew nut on the ballscrew until the trunnion on the nut aligns with the gimbal (Fig. 402).

 Attach the ballscrew nut to the gimbal:

 (a)  
Make sure the ball returns on the ballscrew nut are outboard.

 (b)  
If you will install used bushings, make sure the bushings are in the tolerance (AMM 27-51-73/601).

 (c)  
Apply a layer of the BMS 5-95 sealant to the outer diameter of the bushings.

 (d)  
Install the bushing in the gimbal yoke to attach the ballscrew nut to the gimbal.

 (e)  
Apply a layer of the BMS 5-95 sealant to the bolt holes.

 (f)  
Install the four bolts, washers and nuts to attach the bushing.

 (g)  
Tighten the nuts to 30-40 pound-inches.

 (h)  
Apply a layer of the BMS 5-95 sealant to the bolts, washers and nuts.

 I.
Connect the Torque Tubes to the Transmission

 (1)  
Temporarily install the torque tubes on the transmission (Fig. 401).

 (2)  S 094-047Remove the support from the flaps.
 (3)  S 864-048Supply the system B hydraulic power (Ref 27-51-00/201).
 (4)  S 864-049Move the flap control lever to the UP detent to retract the flaps.
 (5)  S 034-050Disconnect the torque tubes from the transmission.

 CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE ANGULAR CLEARANCE IS 1/4 TO 5/6 TURN IF YOU HAVE
_______ MADE LATERAL TRIM CORRECTIONS. A DIMENSION X NOT IN THIS LIMIT CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE FLAP.
 (6)  
Use the flap drive adapter to turn the transmission until the clearance is the same as it was before the removal:

 (a)  
Make sure the clearance between the ballscrew upstop and the upstop on the universal joint is 170 to 190 degrees (1/2 turn |10 degrees) or (1/4 to 5/6 turn if you have made lateral trim corrections).

 (b)  
Make sure the seal strip touches the leading edge of the midflap.

 CAUTION: DO NOT APPLY A LOAD TO THE INPUT SHAFT ON THE TRANSMISSION WITH
_______ THE TORQUE TUBES. YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE TRANSMISSION.
 (7)  
Connect the torque tubes to the transmission (Fig. 401):

 (a)  
Apply a layer of the grease to the splines on the coupling.

 (b)  
Put the torque tubes in their position on the transmission.

 (c)  
Move the coupling sleeve on the coupling.

 (d)  
Install the three screws to attach the coupling sleeve to the coupling.

 (e)  
Install the lockwire on the screws.

 (8)  
Put the flap control lever in the 5-unit detent to extend the flaps.

 (9)  
Apply the MIL-L-7870 oil to the ballscrew.

 (10)
 Make sure the transmission moves smoothly during the operation.
