E. Install the Midflap Crank

If you will install used parts, do this task: "Aftflap Drive Mechanism Inspection" (AMM 27-51-39/601).

Make sure the aftflap is attached to the midflap.

CAUTION:_______DO NOT INSTALL AN INCORRECT MIDFLAP CRANK. THE MIDFLAP CRANKS FOR THE INBOARD AND OUTBOARD TRACKS ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE. YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE FLAPS DURING THE EXTENSION IF YOU INSTALL THE INCORRECT PARTS.

Measure the length of the midflap crank to make sure you install the correct crank (Detail E, Fig. 401).

Install the pushrod on the midflap crank, if it is necessary (Section A-A):
(a)
Install the bushing (7) in the midflap crank (4).
(b)
Put the pushrod (1) in the midflap crank and install the washer

between the pushrod bearing and the bushing.
(c)
Attach the pushrod with a bolt (8), a washer (10), and a nut (11).
(d)
Tighten the nut to 120 pound-inches (13.6 N-m).
(e)
Install the cotter pin in the nut.

Install the actuator rod on the midflap crank, if it is necessary:
(a)
Install the bushing (16) in the midflap crank.
(b)
Put the actuator rod (2) in the midflap crank and install the washer (9) between the actuator rod bearing and the bushing.
(c)
Attach the actuator rod with a bolt (5), washers (17 and 10), and nut (11).
(d)
Tighten the nut to 120 pound-inches (13.6 N-m).
(e)
Install the cotter pin.

Install the midflap crank:
(a)
Apply a thin layer of the grease on the bearing surfaces of the midflap crank.
(b)
Install the shim (13): 1) Remove the laminations from the shim if it is necessary to
get the specified clearance. 2) Apply a layer of the primer to the shim. 3) Put the shim in the retainer (12).
(c)
Put the midflap crank (4) on the midflap fitting (6).
(d)
Install the retainer (12) and the shim (13): 1) Install the bolts (15) and washers (14) on the retainer. 2) Tighten the bolts to 450-550 pound-inches (50.8-62.1 N-m).
(e)
Install the lockwire on the bolts.

(7) If you replaced a pushrod or an actuator, do this task: "Aftflap Drive Mechanism Adjustment" (Ref Paragraph 18).
NOTE: If you only replaced the midflap crank, do a check of the

aftflap adjustment.
F. Aftflap Adjustment Check

Do this task: "Supply Electrical Power" (AMM 24-22-00/201).

Examine the adjustment of the aftflap drive mechanism:
(a)
Push the ALTN FLAPS ARM switch to put the flaps in alternate control.
(b)
Make sure the hooks on the geneva cams (18) are in the released position (Detail D).
CAUTION:_______MONITOR THE FLAP MOVEMENT CAREFULLY. THE FLAPS CAN BE DAMAGED BY INCORRECTLY ADJUSTED COMPONENTS.
(c)
Turn the ALTN FLAPS switch to move the ball screw nut to the position shown in Fig. 402.
(d)
Open these circuit breakers and attach DO-NOT-CLOSE tags:
1) P415 Power Distribution Center - Right a) 415A18 ALT INBD TE FLAPS
(e)
Make sure the aftflap is in the position shown in Section B-B, Fig. 401.

(3) If the aftflap is not in the correct position, do this task: "Aftflap Drive Mechanism Adjustment" (Ref Paragraph 18).
