D. Prepare for the Removal
NOTE: Flap track 1 and 8 weigh approximately 275 pounds (125 kg) each.
____ Flap track 2 and 7 weigh approximately 325 pounds (145 kg) each.

Remove the outboard flap and carriage forward bogie
(Ref 27-51-04/401).

Remove the foreflap sequence carriage (Ref 27-51-30/401).

Remove the transmission and ball screw (Ref 27-51-33/401).

Attach a load positioner to a hoist above the wing.

Prepare the sling for the removal of flap track 1 or 2.
(a)
Move the balance weight to the left side of the sling.
(b)
Attach the load positioner to the left side of the lift lug on the sling.

Prepare the sling for the removal of flap track 7 or 8.

Move the balance weight to the right side of the sling.
(b)
Attach the load positioner to the right side of the lift lug on the sling.

Lower the sling to the position to attach the flap track.

Turn the hand knob at the bottom of the sling to adjust the clamp for the width of the flap track.

Make sure the distance is correct between the edge of the clamp and the centerline of the forward hinge of the flap track.
(a)
The distance must be 74.8 inches (190.0 cm) for flap tracks 1 and 8.
(b)
The distance must be 77.8 inches (197.6 cm) for flap tracks 2 and 7.
(10)
Turn the hand knob to tighten the clamp on the flap track.

NOTE: Do not use a tool to tighten the hand knob.

E. Remove An Outboard Flap Track

(1)
Remove the bolts, washers, and nuts that attach the support strap. Remove the support strap (Fig. 401).

(2)
Remove an outboard flap track:
(a)
Remove the two mounting bolts.
(b)
Remove the bushings from the flap track mounting bolt holes.
(c)
Remove the retainer bolt, nut, washer, and lock cap which attach the plugs.
