(3) Fill the transmission with hydraulic fluid (AMM 12-13-13/301).
NOTE: Fill the transmission with MIL-H-5606 hydraulic fluid.

(a)
Fill the transmission to the level of the filler port.
(b)
Turn the transmission to release air from the transmission.
(c)
Make sure the transmission is full.
(d)
Install the fill plug.
(e)
Install the lockwire on the fill plug.

If you removed the ball screw from the airplane, install the ball screw (AMM 27-51-41/401).

If you did not remove the ball screw from the airplane, attach the ball screw to the transmission.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO NOT INSTALL THE BALL SCREW 180
_______ DEGREES OUT OF PHASE. THE FLAPS CAN BECOME LOCKED IN THE UP POSITION OR CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE UPSTOPS.
(a) Make sure that the ball screw and transmission have index marks.
NOTE: If the ball screw is out of phase, dimension Y will be
____ changed by 0.22 inch (5.6 mm) on an outboard flap or by
0.28 inch (7.1 mm) on an inboard flap.
1) If the ball screw or the transmission do not have the index marks, disconnect the ball screw from the gimbal (AMM 27-51-41/401).
(b)
Apply a layer of corrosion preventive compound to the forward end of the ballscrew, the universal joint and the bolts and nuts.
(c)
Attach the ball screw to the universal joint. 1) Manually turn the ball screw into the universal joint. 2) Align the bolt holes and the index marks. 3) Install the bolts to temporarily attach the ball screw. 4) Make sure that dimension Y did not change during the
transmission removal on all ball screws on the flap set (Fig. 402).

5) Apply corrosion preventive compound to the threads of the
bolts (5) and the nuts (2). 6) Install the bolts (5), washers (3 and 4) and nuts (2). 7) Tighten the nuts to 75-125 pound-inches (8.5-14.1 N-m) more
than the run-on torque.

Connect the flap torque tubes to the transmission
(AMM 27-51-20/401).

Remove all of the support equipment from the transmission and the flap track.

Remove the flap lock tools from the flap track carriages. If ropes and wedges were used, remove them.

If it is necessary, install the movable flap track fairing
(AMM 27-51-26/401 or AMM 27-51-31/401).

Do a Check of the Flap Position

(1) Pressurize hydraulic systems No. 1 or 4 (AMM 29-11-00/201).

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF THE LE AND TE
_______ FLAPS AND FLAP DRIVE MECHANISMS BEFORE YOU MOVE THE FLAP CONTROL LEVER. WITH HYDRAULIC POWER REMOVED, THE FLAPS WILL MOVE AUTOMATICALLY BY ELECTRICAL POWER WHEN YOU MOVE THE FLAP CONTROL LEVER.
CAUTION:_______MONITOR THE FLAP MOVEMENT CAREFULLY. THE FLAPS CAN BE DAMAGED BY INCORRECTLY ADJUSTED COMPONENTS.

Move the flap control lever to the FLAP UP detent to retract the flaps.

Make sure that the clearance between the universal joint stop and ball screw nut stop, dimension X, is 1/4 to 3/4 turn, 0.54 to 0.90 inch (13.7-22.9 mm) on the inboard flap transmissions and 0.45 to
0.74 inch (11.4-18.8 mm) on the outboard flap transmissions (Fig. 402, View B, C and D).
