 (1)  Install the ball screw (Fig. 402):
 CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO NOT INSTALL THE BALL SCREW 180
_______ DEGREES OUT OF PHASE. THE FLAPS CAN BECOME LOCKED IN THE UP POSITION OR CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE UPSTOPS.
 (a)  Put the forward end of the ball screw in the universal joint: 1) Make sure that you align the bolt holes and the index
 marks. 2) Temporarily install the bolt (1) to attach the ball screw. 3) Turn the ball screw nut to the full up position to make
 sure the universal joint is installed correctly. 4) Make sure the clearance between the upstops is 0.365 +/- 0.05 inch (9.27 +/- 1.27 mm) on the outboard flaps or
 0.427 +/- 0.05 inch (10.85 +/- 1.27 mm) on the inboard flaps (Fig. 402).
 NOTE: If you installed the ball screw incorrectly, this
____ dimension will change. The dimension will change by
 0.22 inch (5.59 mm) on the outboard flaps or by 0.28 inch (7.11 mm) on the inboard flaps.
 (b)  
Apply a layer of corrosion preventive compound on the threads of the bolts (1) and the nuts (4).

 (c)  
Install the bolts (1), washers (2 and 3) and nuts (4) to attach the ball screw to the universal joint.


 NOTE: Install the flat washers on the bolts through the holes
____ with spotfaced surfaces. Install the rounded washers on the bolts through the holes with rounded surfaces.
 (d)  
Tighten the nuts to 75-125 pound-inches (9-14 N-m) above the run-on torque.

 (e)  
Attach the ball screw nut to the flap gimbal (C or D, Fig. 402): 1) Turn the ball screw nut until it aligns with the gimbal. 2) Make sure the dimension Y is the same as it was before the


 removal. 3) Make sure the ball returns on the ball screw nut are down. 4) Apply a layer of corrosion preventive compound to the
 bolts (10) and the bolt holes.
 5)  Install the two gimbal caps (7). a) Make sure the keys on the gimbal caps engage the slots. b) Make sure the bushing flange is against the ball screw
 nut.

 6)  On ball screws No. 1, 2, 7 and 8, install the four bolts and washers (8). a) On ball screws No. 1 and 8, tighten the bolts to
 225-275 pound-inches (25-31 N-m). b) On ball screws No. 2 and 7, tighten the bolts to 450-550 pound-inches (51-62 N-m). 7) On ball screws No. 3, 4, 5 and 6, install the bolts, washers (8 and 12), and nuts (11).
 NOTE: Install a sufficient number of washers (12) below
____ the bolt heads to make sure the bolt goes 0.03-0.08 inch (0.76-2.0 mm) through the nut.
 a) On ball screws No. 3 and 6, tighten the nuts to 120-150 pound-inches (14-17 N-m). b) On ball screws No. 4 and 5, tighten the nuts to 200-240 pound-inches (23-27 N-m).
