E. Install the TE flap lock onto the flap track carriages (Fig. 401):

Supply electrical power (AMM 24-22-00/201).

Move the flaps electrically to put the flap carriage in the correct position.
(a)
For the outboard flaps, the carriage must be approximately 1.95 inches (49.5 mm) forward of the fully down position.
(b)
For the inboard flaps, the carriage must be approximately 7.85 inches (199.4 mm) forward of the fully down position.

(3) Remove the electrical power (AMM 24-22-00/201).

CAUTION:_______DO NOT MOVE THE FLAPS AFTER YOU INSTALL ONE FLAP LOCK. IF YOU CANNOT INSTALL THE SECOND LOCK, REMOVE THE FIRST LOCK AND READJUST THE FLAPS. YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE FLAP DRIVE MECHANISM.

If you will remove the transmission at flap track location 1 or 8, install the outboard trailing edge flap lock tool on the carriage of the outboard trailing edge flap at the location of the transmission that will be removed. If you will remove the transmission at flap track location 2 or 7, you must install a flap lock tool on both carriages of that flap.
(a)
Adjust the flap lock to the correct length.
(b)
Loosen the roller lock screws until the roller hook openings are clear.
(c)
Attach a safety cable to the airplane structure.
(d)
Put the hooks on the deadweight rollers of the forward bogie.
(e)
Adjust the roller lock screws to touch the rollers.
(f)
Adjust the flap position and/or the tool length to make sure you can put the pin thru the tool into the failsafe bar.
NOTE: If the tool is adjusted too much at flap track location
____ number 2 or 7, you cannot install the pin at flap track location number 1 or 8.
(g) Tighten the star knob. Make sure that the serrations engage.

If you will remove the transmission at flap track location 3 or 6, install the inboard trailing edge flap lock on the carriage of the inboard trailing edge flap at the location of the transmission that will be removed. If you will remove the transmission at flap track location 4 or 5, you must install a flap lock on both carriages of that flap.

Adjust the tool to the correct length.
