I. Adjust the Ball Screw Clearance if it is Necessary

Release the pressure in hydraulic systems No. 1 and 4
(AMM 29-11-00/201).

Adjust the ball screws.
(a)
Disconnect the torque tubes from the transmissions.
NOTE: Do not turn the torque tubes while they are
____ disconnected. It will be necessary to adjust the flap drive system.
(b)
Turn the transmission until the universal joint stop and ball screw nut stop touch.
(c)
Make an index mark on the transmission and the coupler housing.
(d)
Turn the transmission to the correct position. 1) Turn an inboard transmission one full turn plus 19 teeth at the coupler.
2) Turn an outboard transmission one full turn plus 24 teeth at the coupler.
(e)
Attach the torque tube and the transmission. 1) Align the torque tube and the transmission. 2) Attach the torque tube to the transmission with three
screws. 3) Install the lockwire on the screws.

Extend and retract the flaps.

Make sure that the clearance between the universal joint stop and ball screw nut stop, dimension X, is 1/4 to 3/4 turn, 0.54 to 0.90 inch (13.7-22.9 mm) on the inboard flap transmissions and 0.45 to
0.74 inch (11.4-18.8 mm) on the outboard flap transmissions (Fig. 402, View B, C and D).
(a) Do the adjustment procedure again if it is necessary.

If you installed transmission 1, 3, 6, or 8, install the position transmitter (AMM 27-58-01/401).

Install the Flap Track Fixed Fairing
(1)
Put the flap control lever in the 30-unit detent to extend flaps.

TRANSMISSION - INSPECTION/CHECK

1. General_______
A. There is one task in this procedure, an inspection of the flap transmission. To do the check, you measure the inner or the outer diameters of the transmission sleeves, couplings, and the shafts. You also measure the movement in the U-joint.
B. You usually do this procedure before you install a transmission. To do this check you must remove and disassemble the transmission.
