Measure the carriage bearings:

 (a)  
Remove the parts.

 (b)  
Use a micrometer or a vernier caliper to measure the parts.

 (c)  
Compare the dimensions you measured to the permitted dimensions shown in Fig. 601.

 (d)  
Repair or replace all parts which are not in the tolerance, as shown in Fig. 601.

 (e)  
Install the parts.

Pressurize hydraulic systems No. 1 and 4 (Ref 29-11-00/201).

Put the flap control lever in the 30 unit detent to extend the flaps.

Do a check of the torque of the failsafe link fasteners:

 (a)  
Tighten the nut to 230-250 pound-inches (26-28 N-m).

 (b)  
Loosen the nut one quarter turn.

Put the flap control lever in the UP detent to retract the flaps.

Release the pressure in hydraulic systems No. 1 and 4
 (Ref 29-11-00/201).

Put the flap control lever in the 30 unit detent to extend the flaps.

Remove the lockbolt from the retainer nut.

Remove the locknut and retainer from the retainer nut.

 (5)
Make sure the retainer nut is tightened to 300 pound-feet (407 N-m).
