F. Prepare for the Installation

Examine the transmission (1) for worn parts (AMM 27-51-33/601).

Make sure that the transmission moves freely without unusual noise.
(a)
Turn the transmission clockwise with the nut on the input shaft.

If you will install a new transmission or a ball screw, make index marks in the same position as the marks on the part that you removed.

Install the support tools if you will use them (Fig. 403).
(a)
Attach the lifting strap to the transmission.
(b)
Attach the fishpole hoist to the airplane and the transmission.

Make sure that the correct spacers (6, 9, and 18) are bonded to the transmission mounting lugs (Detail F, Fig. 402).
(a)
If the spacers are not the correct thickness, install the correct spacers to the transmission mounting lugs (Bonded shims are preferred, Ref SOPM 20-50-12, type 38).

G. Install the Transmission

(1)
At transmissions No. 1, 2, 7 or 8, examine the teflon covered washer on the lower mounting bolt for damage.
(a)
If the teflon has damage, apply teflon paint before the installation.

Install the transmission (Fig. 402).
(a)
Apply a layer of corrosion preventive compound on the transmission mounting bolts and nuts.
(b)
On the inboard flaps, install the spacer (17) in the flap track.
(c)
Align the transmission with the bolt holes in the flap track.
(d)
On an outboard flap transmission, align the aft fairing hinge with the bolt holes.
(e)
Install the three bolts (10, 16, and 19) and washers (11, 15, and 20).
(f)
Install the washers (7, 13 and 22) and the nuts (8, 12 and 21). Install a sufficient number of washers to get the bolts to extend 0.05-0.20 inch (1.3-5.1 mm) after you tighten the nuts.
(g)
Tighten the nuts to the torque range shown in the table:
