Remove the lockbolt from the retainer nut.
(e)
Remove the locknut and the retainer from the retainer nut.
(f)
Put a screwdriver blade between the end of the lug on the carriage spindle and the end of the retainer collar antirotation lug (Detail C, Fig. 401).
NOTE: You must not turn the retainer collar while you loosen
____
the retainer nut.
(g)
Use a main carriage retainer nut wrench to remove the retainer nut from the retainer collar.
(h)
Loosen the retainer collar on the carriage.
(i)
Move the retainer collar and the retainer nut aft.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE CARRIAGE IS HELD CORRECTLY DURING THE
_______ REMOVAL. THE CARRIAGE WEIGHS APPROXIMATELY 200 POUNDS (90 KG). THE CARRIAGE CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
(j)
Use a bearing removal tool to move the carriage out of the link bearing and the thrust bearing. 1) Remove the retainer collar and the retainer nut while the
carriage is moved out of the link.
(k)
If you will install a new carriage, remove the spacer ring from the carriage.
NOTE: Keep the spacer ring to install on the replacement
____
carriage.
