WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF THE LE AND TE
_______ FLAPS AND FLAP DRIVE MECHANISMS BEFORE YOU MOVE THE FLAP CONTROL LEVER. WITH HYDRAULIC POWER REMOVED, THE FLAPS WILL MOVE AUTOMATICALLY BY ELECTRICAL POWER WHEN YOU MOVE THE FLAP CONTROL LEVER.

Put the flap control lever in the UP detent to retract the flaps.

Make sure the midflap stays in its position:
(a)
Attach the midflap to the structure or attach wood blocks with clamps to the flap track aft of the deadweight rollers on the forward bogie.

(6) Install the ball and screw support tool.
(7) S 036-022Remove the gimbal caps: (a) Remove the four bolts that connect the gi gimbal. (b) Remove the gimbal caps from the ball scre mbal caps and thew nut.
(8) S 486-023Attach the test fixture to the ball screw nut and the ball screw.
(9) S 486-024Attach a dial indicator.

Use the dial indicator to measure the backlash between the ball screw nut and the ball screw:
(a)
Measure the backlash with the ball screw nut in the flaps up position.

Measure the backlash with the ball screw nut in many positions between the up and the 25-unit positions.
(d)
Make sure the backlash dimensions are in the tolerance shown on Fig. 601.
