TRANSMISSION - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. General_______
A. There are two tasks in this procedure. There is one task for the removal and one task for the installation of a trailing edge flap transmission.
(1)
The transmission removal procedure has these parts:
(a)
The extension of the flaps
(b)
The removal of the flap track fairings
(c)
The installation of the support equipment
(d)
The removal of the transmission.
(2)
The transmission installation procedure has these parts:
(a)
A check of the transmission for worn parts
(b)
The installation of the support equipment
(c)
The installation of the transmission
(d)
The installation of the flap track fairing
(e)
An adjustment of the flaps
(f)
The retraction of the flaps.

If you can fully extend the flaps, it is not necessary to remove the movable flap track fairing. If the flaps cannot be fully extended, it can be necessary to remove the fairing. If under abnormal conditions the flaps cannot be adjusted to use the flap lock tools, it is recommended that the movable fairing be removed and that wedges and rope be used to block and hold the flaps to prevent movement.

You must disconnect the ball screw from the transmission before you remove the transmission. You can remove the ball screw or keep it installed with the ball screw nut and the ball and screw support tool. If you do not remove the ball screw, you must make index marks on the ball screw and the transmission. You will use the index marks to make sure you install the ball and screw correctly.

Remove the fixed flap track fairing (AMM 27-51-26/401 or AMM 27-51-31/401).
