(a)
The top line is the EFIS CP switch position annunciation. If the switch is in the OFF position, the entire area is blank.
(b)
The color coding is green for VOR and cyan for ADF.
(c)
The decoded station identifier received from the navigation radio is displayed below the switch position annunciation. If a valid identifier is not received, the identifier is replaced by the tuned frequency received from the radio.
(d)
For VORs with a co-located DME, if no identifier is received from the VOR, an identifier from the DME is substituted. The identifier source is distinguished by character size: medium for VOR and small for DME.
(8)
There are four TCAS intruder symbols (expanded mode only):
(a)
Resolution Advisory (red square with red fill),
(b)
Traffic Advisory (yellow circle with yellow fill),
(c)
Proximate Traffic (white diamond with white fill),
(d)
No Threat (white diamond with no fill).
(9)
Vertical Speed Arrow (expanded mode only): An arrow shown next to the TCAS intruder symbols. The arrow represents the vertical speed and direction needed to avoid a collison. The arrow is the same color as the applicable symbol.
(10)
Altitude Data Display: The altitude of the intruder is shown with the TCAS intruder symbols. The altitude is shown as either relative altitude or absolute altitude. The relative altitude is the distance between the intruder and your airplane. The absolute altitude is the distance between the intruder and the ground. The type of altitude shown (relative or absolute) is determined by the TCAS computer. Dashes are shown if the intruder is at the same altitude as your airplane.

747-400 MAINTENANCE MANUAL
(11) There are nine TCAS messages (expanded mode only): TRAFFIC (red), TRAFFIC (yellow), OFFSCALE (red), OFFSCALE (yellow), TFC (cyan), TCAS FAIL (yellow), TA ONLY (cyan), TCAS OFF (cyan), and TCAS TEST (cyan).
E. Plan Mode (Fig. 17)
(1) The plan mode is a North-up presentation of FMC map background data. Airplane present position is not shown. Present track and heading, as well as map background data is presented in the same manner as the map mode.
7. EFIS Interface______________
A. Radio Altimeter (RA) Interface (Fig. 18)
(1)
The radio altimeters provide radio altitude data of up to 2500 feet to the EIU. When the radio altitude is -20 feet or less, the PFD shall limit and display -20 feet. In addition, the EFIS CPs provide decision height (DH) information to the EIU.
(2)
During the airplane decent, when the radio altitude reaches the selected DH value, the DH alert circuitry will be set. This causes the DH readout on the PFD to change color and start flashing.
(3)
The DH alert circuit will be reset if one of the following conditions is satisfied:
(a)
Radio altitude equals zero.
(b)
Radio altitude is greater than DH + 75 feet.
(c)
The RST (reset) switch on the EFIS CP is momentarily depressed.
B. Inertial Reference Unit (IRU) Interface (Fig. 19)
(1)
The Inertial Reference System (IRS) provides various navigation data to the ND and PFD. The navigation data includes information such as heading, pitch, roll and compass data.
(2)
The IRS provides back-up data to the EFIS. This data is used only in the event of an FMC failure. These inputs are: ground speed, wind speed, wind direction, drift angle and track angle.
(3)
The pilot's IRS source select switch is used to select which IRU provides data to the EIU. Normally, the left EIU receives data from the left IRU, and the right EIU receives data from the right IRU. However, the CAPT's IRS source select switch enables the left EIU to receive data from the center or right IRU. Similarly, the F/O's IRS source select switch enables the right EIU to receive data from the left or center IRU.
