Flap Maneuver Speeds
(a)
Two flap maneuver speeds are displayed. These speeds correspond to the current selected flap and next retracted flap settings.
(b)
The speeds are displayed by tick marks on the airspeed tape with labels for flap settings.
(c)
For NCD or failed FMC flap extension/retraction speed, the associated tick mark and label are removed.
(6)
Decision Speed (V1)
(a)
The takeoff decision speed is displayed by a labeled bug.
(b)
The value is calculated by the FMC. The pilot can select or modify the FMC value thru the CDU.
(c)
If the value is not within the display range of the airspeed tape, the decision speed is indicated by a V1 legend and digital readout located near the top of the airspeed tape.
(d)
The decision speed is removed for failed ADC CAS.
(e)
The decision speed is removed and the NO V SPD message (Fig. 10C) is displayed for invalid FMC V1 decision speed.
(f)
AIRPLANES WITH V1 CALL OUT;
An aural "V ONE" comes on at the V1 speed.
(7)
Rotation Speed (VR)
(a)
The rotation speed is displayed by a labeled bug.
(b)
The value is calculated by the FMC. The pilot can select or modify the FMC value thru the CDU.
(c)
If the value is not within the display range of the airspeed tape, the rotation speed is indicated by a VR legend and digital readout located near the top of the airspeed tape.
(d)
The rotation speed is removed for failed ADC CAS.
(e)
The rotation speed is removed and the NO V SPD message (Fig. 10C) is displayed for invalid FMC VR rotation speed.
(8)
Selected Target Speed/Mach Pointer
(a)
The pointer is placed at the selected target airspeed.
(b)
If the selected airspeed is not within the display range of the airspeed tape, the pointer is parked at the appropriate end of the airspeed tape.
(c)
The pointer is removed for invalid FCC selected airspeed or failed ADC CAS.

Current Airspeed Readout
(a)
The readout indicates the computed airspeed (CAS) received from the ADC.
(b)
As the value of CAS changes, the digits move to simulate the rolling of a drum type readout.
(c)
The airspeed tape moves so that the current CAS is indicated by the tip of the readout index pointer.
(d)
For NCD ADC CAS, 30 knots is indicated.
(e)
For failed ADC CAS, the readout and index pointer are removed.
(10)
Airspeed Trend
(a)
The airspeed trend arrow indicates referenced acceleration.
(b)
The arrow extends up or down from the tip of the CAS readout index pointer.
(c)
The length of the arrow is scaled so that the tip of the arrow indicates the predicted airspeed in ten seconds.
(d)
The airspeed trend arrow is removed for invalid IRU inertial flight path acceleration or invalid ADC CAS.
(11)
Landing Speed (VREF)
(a)
The approach reference speed is displayed by a labeled bug.
(b)
The value is computed by the FMC. The pilot can select or modify the FMC value thru the CDU.
(c)
If the value is not within the display range of the airspeed tape, the landing speed is indicated by a REF legend and digital readout located near the bottom of the airspeed tape.
(d)
If VREF becomes failed during landing procedure, the last valid value of VREF is displayed.
(e)
The display of VREF is removed for failed ADC CAS.
(12)
Selected Landing Flap (SLF) and Landing Speed (VREF)
(a) Numerical Display (SLF/VREF)
1) Numerical values of SLF and VREF are displayed in green characters at the bottom right outside edge of the speed tape. The SLF and VREF values are separated by a "/". Leading zeroes are suppessed.
