MAINTENANCE MANUAL
(13)
Compass Rose
(a)
The full rose compass covers 360° and moves in response to IRS track. Indices are provided at 10° intervals. Numerics are placed against the indices at 30° intervals.
(b)
The expanded rose compass covers 80° of the available 360° and moves in response to IRS track. Indices are provided at 10° intervals. Numerics are placed against the indices at 30° intervals.
(14)
Straight Trend Vector
(a)
The straight trend vector extends from the airplane symbol to the compass rose. This vector indicates the airplane's straight line track trend resulting from the current heading and winds.
(b)
The tick marks on the track line indicate the map range. The displayed numeric range value represents one-half of the full scale map range.
(c)
The vector is removed for invalid heading or track data.
(15)
Map Range
(a)
The tick marks on the straight trend vector indicate the map range. The displayed numeric value represents one-half of the full scale map range.
(b)
The arcs which pass through the straight trend vector indicate the map range. The displayed numeric value represents one-half of the full scale map range.
(16)
Vertical Deviation
(a)
Displayed if the selected system source is L,R FMC.
(b)
Deviation is indicated by a magenta colored scale and a white colored, diamond shaped pointer.
(c)
For deviation greater than 420 ft, a digital readout is displayed above/below the deviation scale.
(d)
For NCD FMC vertical deviation, the scale and pointer are removed.
(e)
For invalid FMC vertical deviation, the scale and pointer are removed and the VTK flag (Fig. 12B) is displayed.
(17)
Curved Trend Vector
(a)
The curved trend vector is drawn from the tip of the airplane symbol to indicate the predicted airplane position in 30, 60, or 90 seconds. Each line segment corresponds to 30 seconds.
(b)
The length of the line is based on instantaneous ground speed. The curvature is based on cross-track acceleration.
(c)
If ground speed or cross-track acceleration is not available, the curved trend vector is removed and the straight trend vector is extended to the airplane symbol.
(18)
Radio Selection IDENT/FREQ
(a)
The EFIS control panel radio selection is annunciated as either ADF (L,R) or VOR (L,R). IF the switch is in the OFF position, the radio selection IDENT/FREQ field is blank.
(b)
The color coding is green for VOR and cyan for ADF.

747-400 MAINTENANCE MANUAL
(c)
The decoded station identifier received from the navigation radio is displayed below the VOR/ADF switch position annunciation. If a valid identifier is not received, the identifier is replaced with the tuned frequency received from the radio.
(d)
For VORs with a co-located DME, if no identifier is received from the VOR, an identifier from the DME is substituted. The identifier source is distinguished by character size: medium for VOR and small for DME.
(e)
For NCD VOR/ADF radio data, the associated identifier and readout are removed.
(f)
For invalid VOR/ADF radio data, the associated identifier and numeric readout are removed and the respective ADF L, ADF R, VOR L, VOR R flag (Fig. 12B) is displayed.
(19)
DME Distance
(a)
DME distance is displayed by a DME legend and readout for VORs with a co-located DME.
