B. The Integrated Display System (IDS) on the 747-400 airplane is the integration of the Electronic Flight Instrument System (EFIS) and the Engine Indicating Crew Alerting System (EICAS) into a single system. The EFIS and EICAS information is presented on stroke and raster written multicolor cathode ray tube (CRT) displays. These displays, referred to as Integrated Display Units (IDUs), provide EFIS and EICAS information in a form suitable for accurate and rapid interpretation by the flight crew. In addition, the displays maintain a "quiet, dark flight deck".
C. Data is transmitted to the IDS from many airplane systems. The IDS formats this data for display on six IDUs. The IDUs display flight, navigation, and engine information, and crew alerting and status messages. The IDUs comprise the Primary Flight Display (PFD), the Navigation Display (ND), and the EICAS displays.
D. The EFIS portion of the IDS includes the Primary Flight Display (PFD) and the Navigation Display (ND). Attitude, flight director, altitude and airspeed information are displayed on the PFD. Navigation information and weather radar are on the ND.
