bus.CMC Outputs
(a)
The Master Monitor cards, Aural Synthesizer cards, Configuration Warning card, Crew Alerting card, Tail ID card and Signal Collection cards continuously provide digital maintenance information to the left and right central maintenance computers (CMCs) with direct access or indirect access via the EIUs. This data can be monitored by using a bus analyzer at the monitor jacks on the front of each card.
Internal Faults
(a)
The microprocessors continuously monitor the internal operation of these cards. Whenever an internal fault is detected, the red LED on the front of the card illuminates. The CMCs are informed of this condition via an ARINC 429 data bus.
Interface Faults
(a)
The microprocessors continuously monitor the validity of the inputs supplied to each of these cards.
(b)
Whenever an interface fault is detected, a yellow LED on the front of the affected card illuminates. The CMCs are informed of this condition via an ARINC 429 data bus.
Internal and Interface Faults
(a)
If both an internal and an input fault is detected, then only
the red LED illuminates.Master Monitor Cards
(a) Each master monitor card receives ARINC 429 data on six input buses. The sources are the: 1) ADCs. Master monitor card A monitors the ADC selected by the captain. Master monitor card B monitors the ADC selected by the first officer. 2) IRUs. Master monitor card A monitors the IRU selected by the captain. Master monitor card B monitors the IRU selected by the first officer.
3) PSEU. Master monitor card A monitors bus A. Master monitor card B monitors bus B.

747-400 MAINTENANCE MANUAL
4) FCU. Master monitor card A monitors the left FCU. Master monitor card B monitors the right FCU.
5) RAs. Master monitor card A monitors the left RA. Master monitor card B monitors the right RA.
6) FMCs. Master monitor card A monitors the left FMC. Master monitor card B monitors the right FMC.
(b)
The data received is processed by the data distribution logic circuitry and sent to an ARINC 429 transmitter. The transmitter sends the data to these components: 1) Configuration warning card 2) Crew alerting card 3) Left and right stall warning management cards (SWMCs) 4) Central maintenance computers (CMCs)
(c)
These components then aid the master monitor cards in
generating:
1) Fire warning indication
2) Firebell function
3) Overspeed warning
4) Autopilot disconnect warning
5) Cabin pressure warning
6) Ground proximity and windshear warning
7) TCAS warning
(d)
This ARINC 429 data can be monitored by using a bus analyzer at the monitor jacks located on the front of each master monitor card.
(10) Aural Synthesizer Cards
(a)
Whenever power is first applied either in the air or on the ground, a 1000 Hertz tone is generated by the aural synthesizer logic. This tone is sent to the aural warning speakers via the gain control and amplifier circuitry for a period of 0.5 second. This tests the aural output of the aural synthesizer cards and the aural warning speakers.
(b)
Speaker return signals are sent back to the aural synthesizer cards. Whenever this signal is not present, either during power up or normal operation, the yellow LED on the appropriate ASC is shown.
