 3.  IDS Components
______________
 A.  Integrated Display Unit (Fig. 1)
 (1)  
The IDS consists of six integrated display units to present EFIS and EICAS data. Two integrated display units are for the CAPT's PFD and ND, and two integrated display units are for the F/O's PFD and ND. A further two integrated display units are for the main EICAS and auxiliary EICAS. The integrated display units are fully interchangeable and are capable of serving as NDs, PFDs, or EICAS.

 (2)  
The intensity of the integrated display unit can be controlled manually or automatically through the IDU's brightness/dimming control circuitry.

 (a)  
Manual brightness/dimming control circuitry varies the stroke/raster brightness of the integrated display unit in a log/linear fashion. There are pilots' PFD and ND brightness controls located on the P72 panel, and pilots' EICAS brightness controls located on the EICAS control panel.

 (b)  
The automatic brightness circuitry compensates the display brightness level as a function of ambient lighting, as measured by a integrated display units local integral light sensor. Automatic contrast circuitry compensates the display contrast level as a function of ambient lighting, as measured by a remote light sensor.

 

 (3)  
The integrated display units require 115 volts 400 hertz, single phase power. Each integrated display unit has an internal temperature sensor circuit. When the sensor detects an overheat condition, the integrated display unit goes blank and the EICAS annunciates the "IDS CRT" status message. When the temperature drops below the threshold temperature, the integrated display unit resumes normal operation.
