INTEGRATED DISPLAY UNIT - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. General
_______
A. This subject has two tasks. The first task is to remove the integrated display unit (IDU). This task also includes an optional procedure that records IDU shop faults. The second task is to install the display unit. This task also includes a procedure to make sure the IDU has the correct software part number installed.
B. There are six IDUs in the flight deck. Two IDUs are on the captain's instrument panel (one for the PFD, the other for the ND). Two IDUs are on the first officer's panel (one for the PFD, the other for the ND). Two IDUs show EICAS information (one IDU on the center instrument panel, the other IDU on the forward electronics panel).
C. Each IDU is held in position by its handle and two screws. Electrical connections are through one connector at the rear of the IDU. The electrical connector attaches with a connector behind the instrument panel. The IDU weights approximately 27.0 pounds.

Supply electrical power, if it is necessary (AMM 24-22-00/201).

Access SHOP FAULTS from the main CMC menu (AMM 45-10-00/201).

Write down the shop faults for the IDU:
(a)
Push the <31 INDICATING/WARNING line select key (LSK) on the shop faults menu.
(b)
Push the LSK for IDS-EICAS-UPPER, IDS-EICAS-LOWER, IDS-PFD-L, IDS-PFD-R, IDS-ND-L, or IDS-ND-R for the corresponding IDU.
(c)
Write down the shop faults which are shown.
NOTE: If no shop faults are shown, you may need to access the
____ shop faults again to make sure that there are no shop faults.

(4) Remove electrical power, if it is not necessary (AMM 24-22-00/201).
D. Integrated Display Unit Removal

(1) Open the circuit breaker for the IDU you will remove and attach a DO-NOT-CLOSE tag:
(a) P7, Overhead Circuit Breaker Panel
1) 7F8, UPR EICAS
2) 7F12, ND L
3) 7F13, PFD L
4) 7F14, LWR EICAS
5) 7F17, ND R
6) 7F18, PFD R

WARNING: AILERONS, RUDDERS, ELEVATORS, FLAPS, SPOILERS, LANDING GEAR,
_______ AND THRUST REVERSERS CAN MOVE QUICKLY WHEN YOU MOVE THE CONTROL COLUMN. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.

Make sure hydraulic power is removed from the flight controls before you move the control column (AMM 29-11-00/201).

Remove the IDU:
CAUTION: PUSH THE HANDLE TIGHTLY AGAINST THE FRONT OF THE IDU.
_______ THIS PREVENTS DAMAGE TO THE HINGED MOUNTING ASSEMBLY OR SCREWS, WHEN THE SCREWS ARE LOOSENED.
DO NOT USE FORCE ON THE HANDLE. DAMAGE WILL OCCUR IF YOU USE FORCE ON THE HANDLE. THE HANDLE IS SPRING-LOADED AND WILL MOVE WHEN THE SCREWS ARE DISENGAGED FROM THE HINGED MOUNTING ASSEMBLY.
(a) With the IDU's handle held against the top of the unit, loosen the two screws until they are disengaged from the mounting assembly.
NOTE: The screws are captive screws, and should not be removed

from the handle.
