MAINTENANCE MANUAL
The expanded rose map display format is shown in Figure 11. The full rose map display format is displayed in Figure 12. The airplane's present position is represented by the apex of the triangular airplane reference symbol. The map background data may contain any of the following types of symbols or data: active flight plan, offset path, inactive flight plan, provisional flight plan, flight plan waypoints, route data, altitude profile points, holding pattern, procedure turn, text messages, origin/destination airports, other airports, runway symbology, selected reference point (SRP), SRP radial, SRP distance, tuned navigation aids, other navigation aids, tuned navigation aid radials, ground reference points, energy management fix, nondirectional beacons, and airway segments (Fig. 12A).The map background data contains TCAS symbols and TCAS messages. The required set of background data is transmitted to the ND every five seconds. Each symbol location is specified by its latitude and longitude. On receipt of a new map background block, the ND plots the symbols on the display at the selected map range scale. These symbols are plotted with respect to the present airplane position.Between map background updates, the background data is rotated and translated according to the current values of airplane track and ground speed. The background data is not rotated and translated between map background updates. When the POS switch on the CAPT's or F/O's EFIS CP is pressed, a display of IRU and radio navigation raw data is overlaid on the FMC generated map display of the respective ND. 1) The IRU raw data display consists of the IRU positions
plotted at their appropriate latitude and longitude values. This display allows the FMC generated position, displayed by the airplane symbol, to be compared to the three separate IRU positions.
2) The radio navigation aid raw data display consists of a radial from the airplane toward the station for each of zero, one, or two tuned VORs. The radial extends from the airplane symbol at an angle equal to the bearing from the station to the airplane. The angle is computed by adding 180 degrees to the received omnibearing.
3) Distance from a co-located DME is displayed by a tick mark at the termination of a radial. If no distance data is received, the radial extends to the edge of the display and there is no tick mark.
4) Comparison of the radial and tick mark position to the station symbol in the map background allows the FMC computed navigation aid position to be compared with the navigation aid raw data.

MAINTENANCE MANUAL
(2)
Track Annunciator
(a)
A green colored TRK annunciation is displayed to indicate that the compass value under the index is track.
(b)
For invalid track data, the annunciator is removed.
(3)
Track Readout
(a)
A white colored readout indicates the current value of track.
(b)
For invalid track data, the readout is removed and the TRK flag (Fig. 12B) is displayed.
(4)
MAG/TRU Annunciator
(a)
A green colored MAG or TRU annunciator is displayed to indicate whether the compass is referring to magnetic north or true north.
(b)
A green colored box surrounds the MAG annunciation for ten seconds to indicate a transition from true to magnetic north reference.
(c)
A white colored box surrounds the TRU annunciation.
(d)
A yellow colored box surrounds the TRU annunciation (initially flashes for ten seconds) if the vertical descent rate exceeds 800 feet per minute for 2000 ft (landing phase).
(e)
For invalid heading/track, the annunciation and surrounding box are removed.
(5)
Grid Heading
(a)
The grid heading box, GRID legend and grid designator number are displayed if the NORM/TRUE switch on the EICAS Control Panel/FMC Switch is selected to TRUE and the magnetic heading is NCD (no computed data).
