F. LPT Threaded Ports and Bosses Inspection
S 216-022-C00
(1) Examine the threads of the ports and bosses for damaged threads
(Fig. 601):
(a) It is permitted to have one complete turn of the thread gone. This thread can be continuous damage or cumulative for the full boss or port thread. To find the total cumulative damage, you must follow the full thread length.
S 216-023-C00
(2) Examine the ports and bosses for cracks in the welds (Fig. 601):
(a)
One crack for each port or boss is permitted if it is not more than 0.04 inch (1.00 mm) in length.
(b)
A maximum service extension of 50 cycles is permitted for one crack that is 0.5 inch (12.7 mm) in length if there is no air leakage.
G. 2nd- and 3rd-Stage LPT Borescope Plugs Inspection
NOTE: This inspection examines the 2nd- and 3rd-stage borescope
____ plugs to see if the 2nd- or 3rd-stage LPT vane segments have turned circumferentially. The 2nd- or 3rd-stage LPT vane segments turn circumferentially when the anti-rotation lock no longer holds the vane segments in position. When the vane segments turn, they damage the EGT thermocouples and the borescope plugs. This inspection examines the borescope plugs to see if the vane segments have turned.
S 026-036-C00
CAUTION: WHEN YOU DO AN INSPECTION OF THE 2ND- AND 3RD-STAGE BORESCOPE
_______ PLUGS, DO NOT REMOVE AND EXAMINE THE TWO PLUGS AT THE SAME TIME. FIRST REMOVE AND EXAMINE THE 2ND-STAGE PLUG, THEN INSTALL IT AND DO THE STEPS AGAIN FOR THE 3RD-STAGE PLUG. IF YOU REMOVE THE TWO PLUGS AT THE SAME TIME, YOU CAN ACCIDENTALLY INTERMIX THEM. THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
(1) Remove the 2nd-stage borescope plug as follows (Fig. 602):
(a) Remove the rigid borescope plug from the turbine case at the 3 o'clock position.
S 216-037-C00
(2) Examine the 2nd-stage borescope plug as follows (Fig. 603):
(a) If you can remove the borescope plug, make an inspection as follows: 1) Small marks in areas A, B and C, shiny or not, where two
surfaces touch are permitted. 2) Worn surfaces or missing material in area B is permitted.
