(1) Remove the radial drive shaft from the protective tube.

PRECAUTION, DAMAGE TO THE SEALS CAN OCCUR.

Put a light layer of engine oil on the splines at the two ends.

If it is necessary, remove the plug from the RDS port.

(4)
Carefully move the collar end (outward) on the RDS through the RDS
port.
(a) Make sure the splines are fully engaged.
NOTE: Splines are fully engaged when the RDS points out
____ 0.640 + 0.040 inch (16.25 + 1.00 mm) from the RDS port.

(5) Install the transfer gearbox (AMM 72-62-01/401).

Close the left and right thrust reverser (AMM 78-31-00/201).

Close the left and right fan cowl panel (AMM 71-11-02/201).

RADIAL DRIVE SHAFT, INNER HOUSING AND OUTER HOUSING - INSPECTION/CHECK

1. General_______
A. The first task in this procedure gives instructions to do an inspection of the radial drive shaft (RDS) housing. The second procedure gives instructions to do an inspection of the bore diameter of the fan frame strut #10.

(1)
Remove the inner and outer housings (AMM 72-62-02/401).

Make sure the inner and outer housings are cleaned with a lint free cloth wet with acetone.

(3)
Inspect the inner housing as follows:
(a)
Cracks - not serviceable.
(b)
Wear or fretting on the mating surface at the large end of the inner housing is repairable as follows: 1) If the outer diameter (O.D.) is less than 2.493 inches
(63.3 mm) - not serviceable.
2) If the O.D. is greater than 2.493 inches (63.3 mm) - a maximum service extension of 10 hours is permitted for the worn or fretted inner housing.
3) The above limits are for a 10 hour flight home and if the inner housing meets the inspection limits, install the inner housing (AMM 72-62-02/401).
(c) Wear, fretting or grooves on the small diameter end - not serviceable.
