SPLITTER FAIRING - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

 1.  General
_______
 A.  This procedure has two tasks, to remove and install the splitter fairing. The splitter fairing is located at the interface of the secondary and primary airflows on the fan frame inner hub. The splitter fairing is an unbroken ring,
 B.  To replace the splitter fairing, you must do the steps that follow:
 -
remove the fan blade set

 -
remove the fairing

 -heat the fairing with a heat gun
 -
install the fairing

 -
install the fan blde set.

Remove all of the fan rotor blades (AMM 72-31-02/401).

 (2)  
Remove the screws that attach the fairing to the forward edge of the fan OGV inner shroud.

 S 024-004-C00

 (3)  
Remove the splitter fairing.

 NOTE: It can be necessary to use a soft drift to loosen the fairing

 from the inner shroud.

 (1)  Make the forward flange of the splitter fairing hot with a heat gun (Ref 20-10-27/201) to approximately 140°F (60°C).

 WARNING:_______WEAR THERMAL INSULATED GLOVES WHEN YOU TOUCH HEATED PARTS. YOU MUST PREVENT INJURY TO YOUR HANDS.
 (2)  Put the splitter fairing on the forward edge of the shrouds and align the offset holes.
 NOTE: It can be necessary to use a soft drift to adjust the fairing

 on the shrouds.

 (3)  
Lightly lubricate the screw threads with graphite grease.

 S 434-009-C00

 (4)  
Install the screws (18 places) and tighten to 40-45 pound-inches (4.5-5.0 N.m).

Install the fan rotor blades (AMM 72-31-02/401).
