4. ENGINES WITH THE RTV SILICONE (BLACK COLOR) ABRADABLE SHROUD; Patch Repair of the Abradable Shroud
____________________________________
A. General
(1) This task refers to a procedure for the in-place repair of the abradable shroud by installation of a patch of 24 inches (600 mm) maximum length.
NOTE: The following patch repair is estimated to take less than
____ 8 hours in the hangar when done by skilled mechanics familiarized with the procedure.
B. Equipment
(1)
Protective mats (two are necessary) - Rubber Manufacturer's Association, Grade SC43, Neoprene sponge, 1.0 inch thick, approximately 3.0 x 4.0 feet with warning streamer attached.
(2)
Scalpel - locally available.
(3)
Locally manufactured tooling - Pressure pad, thermally-controlled electrical supply unit and heating blanket (see Fig. C) or:
Special tool - Pressure tool inflatable blade path liner

For 220 VAC (50 Hz), 856A3630G01

F. Prepare to Locally Recondition the Abradable Shroud

(1) Make sure the start levers are in the CUTOFF position.
(a) Install the DO-NOT-OPERATE tag on the start levers.

(2) Open the applicable circuit breaker and install a DO-NOT-CLOSE tag.

1) ENG 1 START VALVE
2) ENG 2 START VALVE

CAUTION:_______MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL THE MATS IN THE INLET COWL. THIS WILL PREVENT DAMAGE FROM TOOLS, PARTS OR UNWANTED MATERIAL THAT FALL ON THE INLET COWL.
(3) Install the mats into the lower half of the inlet cowl.

CAUTION:_______THIS REPAIR MUST NOT BE DONE IN A HUMID ATMOSPHERE. THIS COULD AFFECT THE QUALITY OF THE BONDING COMPOUND. THE MINIMUM TEMPERATURE MUST BE 60°F (15°C).
(4) Take reference measurements of the clearance between the fan blade
tip and the abradable liner at several locations around the liner.

Use only one blade as reference.
(b)
Make a record of the dimensions.

(5) Remove a sufficient number of fan blades to get access to the repair area (AMM 72-31-02/401).
