4. Mid Acoustical Panel Removal

A. Equipment
(1) Protective Mats (two required) - Rubber
Manufacturer's Association, Grade SC43,
neoprene sponge, 1 inch thick, approximately 3
x 4 feet with warning streamers attached.

(1) Make sure the start levers are in the CUTOFF position.
(a) Install the DO-NOT-OPERATE tags.

CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE EDGES OF THE MATS ARE TIED TOGETHER OR TAPED, TO
_______ PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE INLET COWL. TOOLS, PARTS, OR UNWANTED MATERIALS CAN FALL ON THE INLET COWL AND CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
(2) Install the protective mats in the inlet.
(a) Make sure you give protection to the bottom half of the inlet cowl.

Remove the three fan blades that are adjacent to the panel (AMM 72-31-02/401).

Remove the mid acoustical panel as follows (Fig. 402):

(a) Turn the fan to align the empty space of fan blades with the acoustical panel to be removed.
CAUTION: IF YOU USE A PNEUMATIC OR ELECTRICAL SCREWDRIVER TO LOOSEN
_______ AND REMOVE THE ACOUSTICAL PANEL SCREWS, MAKE SURE THE SPEED IS NOT MORE THAN 200 RPM. IF THE SPEED IS MORE THAN 200 RPM, DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
(b)
Remove the eight screws that attach the panel to the fan case.
(c)
If you find a screw which has no torque feel when it is removed, discard and replace it with a new screw.
(d)
Lift out the larger end of the panel from the fan case while you slide the narrower end out from under the adjacent panel.
(e)
Remove the panel from the engine.

(5) If it is necessary, remove the snap-fit fillet skin from the panel and keep it for the installation.
