 C. Procedure
 S 416-008-C00
 (1)  
If it is necessary, remove the inner and outer housings.

 S 226-007-C00

 (2)  
Measure the bore where the inner RDS housing seats in the fan frame strut as follows:


 CAUTION: DO NOT CONTINUE TO OPERATE THE ENGINE IF THERE IS NO
_______ SHOULDER IN THE BORE OF THE FAN FRAME STRUT. ENGINE DAMAGE CAN OCCUR.
 (a)  If the bore diameter is less than 2.5236 inches (64.10 mm), replace the RDS housing (AMM 72-62-02/401).

(b)  If the bore diameter is less than 2.5236-2.550 inches (64.10-64.75 mm), repair the fan frame (AMM 72-33-00/801).
 NOTE:____ This repair is for an overlimit extension of 10 hours.
 (c)  If the bore diameter is more than 2.550 inches (64.75 mm), replace the engine (AMM 71-00-02/401).
 NOTE:____ The shoulder of the bore in the fan frame strut prevents radial movement of the inner RDS housing into the engine.

HORIZONTAL DRIVE SHAFT - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES

 1.  General
_______ ú A. This procedure contains five tasks as follows:
 (1)  
Removal of the horizontal drive shaft.

 (2)  
Installation of the horizontal drive shaft.

 (3)  
Inspection for movement of the oil retaining sleeve out of the end of the shaft.

 (4)  
Repair of a horizontal drive shaft with the oil retaining sleeve at


 the end of the shaft. ú (5) Do an inspection of the horizontal drive shaft housing.
 B.  When you do the inspection of the horizontal drive shaft, you must first remove the transfer gearbox (TGB).

 2.  Remove the Horizontal Drive Shaft (Fig. 201)

 C.  Remove the horizontal drive shaft.

Open the left fan cowl panel (Ref 71-11-02/2-1).

 (2)  
Remove the transfer gearbox (Ref 72-62-01).

 S 022-004-C00

 (3)  
Carefully remove the shaft from the transfer gearbox.


 (a)  This will disengage the splines.

 (4)  To remove the locking nut, move the nut off the end of the TGB shaft.
