N1 SPEED SENSOR GUIDE TUBE O-RINGS - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

 1.  General
_______
 A.  This procedure gives the data to replace the guide tube O-rings for the N1 speed sensor.
 B.  The O-rings for the N1 speed sensor are found on the No. 5 fan frame strut.
 C.  Use of this procedure will give a repair for oil leakage from the No. 5 fan frame strut.

 2.  Remove the N1 Speed Sensor Guide Tube O-rings

Borescope Equipment:

 (a)  
Borescope, Rigid - 856A1320, CFM International, P.O. Box 15514, Cincinnati, OH 45215

 (b)  
Borescope, Rigid - 856A1311, CFM International (replacement for 856A1320)

 (c)  
Light Source - 856A1322, CFM International

 (d)  
Light Source - 856A1316, CFM International (replacement for 856A1322)

 

 (2)  
Borescope Kit - 856A1119G01, G02, G03, G04, G05, or G06, CFM International


 NOTE: Borescope Kit 856A1119 can be used as a replacement.

 D.  Remove the Guide Tube O-rings For the N1 Speed Sensor

 (1)  Make sure the start levers are in the CUTOFF position.
 (a) Install DO-NOT-OPERATE tags to the start levers.

S 864-014-C00 WARNING: DO THE DEACTIVATION PROCEDURE TO PREVENT THE OPERATION OF THE
_______ THRUST REVERSER. THE ACCIDENTAL OPERATION OF THE THRUST REVERSER CAN CAUSE INJURIES TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
 (2)  
Do the deactivation procedure for the thrust reverser for ground maintenance (AMM 78-31-00/201).

 (3)  
Open the right fan cowl panel (AMM 71-11-02/201).


 S 014-016-C00 WARNING: OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PROCEDURE TO OPEN THE THRUST
_______ REVERSER. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS, INJURIES TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
 (4)  
Open the right thrust reverser (AMM 78-31-00/201). S 014-005-C00

 (5)  
Remove the N1 speed sensor from the No. 5 fan frame strut (AMM 77-12-01/201).

 (6)  
Remove and discard the O-ring from the end of the guide tube. S 034-007-C00

 (7)  
Remove the bolts that attach the sleeve to the fan frame. S 014-008-C00

 (8)  
Remove the sleeve from the fan frame. S 024-009-C00

 (9)  
Remove the guide tube for the N1 speed sensor from the fan frame. S 214-002-C00

 (10)
 Carefully examine the two O-rings on the guide tube for damage.


 (a)  Discard the two O-rings.

 (11) Visually examine the outside of the guide tube and the inside of the strut cavity for a large amount of oil wetting.
 NOTE: It is normal to see some oil on the outside of the guide
____ tube and in the cavity, but the outside of the guide tube should not be fully wet with oil.

 (12) Make an inspection of the bore of the No. 5 fan frame strut as follows:
