(3)  Turn the fan rotor as necessary and examine the 1st-stage stator vanes through the fan blades for the these items (Fig. 601):
 NOTE: If you find damage that is more than these limits you must
____ replace the 1st-stage booster vane assembly (AMM 72-31-03/401) unless the procedure gives an extension.
 If you find damage, all downstream booster stages and the HP compressor must be borescope inspected (AMM 72-00-00/601).
 (a)  
Broken vane - If a vane is broken the assembly is not
 servicable.


 (b)  
Cracks and tears


 1)  No maximum number in Areas A and B if the damage is less than 0.128 inch (3.25 mm) radially and 0.0394 inch (1 mm) axially.
 2)  No maximum number in Area C if the damage is less than
 0.256 inch (6.5 mm) radially and 0.079 inch (2 mm) axially.
 3)  A maximum service extension of 10 cycles/15 hours is permitted if the damage is more than the limits for the Areas A, B and C.
 (c)  
Disengaged from the inner shroud - If a vane is disengaged from the inner shroud the assembly is not servicable.

 (d)  
Wear in the abradable material of the outer shroud:
 1) There is no maximum quantity of wear.


 (e)  
Flaking of the abradable material of the outer shroud: 1) The assembly is not serviceable if the total loss of the material is more than 15.5 square inches (100 sq. cm.)

 2)  A 100 hour maximum service extension is permitted if the flaking is more than the limits.

 (f)  
Distortion of the leading edge and the trailing edge 1) No maximum limit if the damage is less than 0.709 inch (18 mm) radially and 0.256 inch (6.5 mm) axially.


 2)  A maximum service extension of 50 cycles/75 hours is permitted if the damage is less than 1.0 inch (25.4 mm) radially and 0.492 inch (12.5 mm) axially.
 3)  If the damage is more than this limit, replace the vane assembly (AMM 72-31-03/401).
 (g)  Nicks, dents or scratches on the concave and/or convex surfaces: 1) No maximum number in Areas A and B if the diameter is less
 than 0.09 inch (2.5 mm). a) Protrusions are permitted if they do not go through the metal.

 2)  No maximum number in Area C if the diameter is less than
 0.197 inch (5 mm). a) Protrusions are permitted if they do not go through the metal.
 b)  A maximum service extension of 50 cycles/75 hours is permitted if the diameter is less than 0.295 inch
 (7.5 mm).
 (h)  Nicks, dents or scratches on the leading edge and the trailing edge 1) No maximum number if the axial length is less than
