BOOSTER BLADES AND VANES - APPROVED REPAIRS

1. General_______
A. The leading edge of the 1st-stage booster vanes can be repaired by
blending, as specified in this task. The maximum blending limits are
shown in Fig. 801. Vane assemblies with damage that is more than these
limits must be replaced (AMM 72-31-03/401).

(1) Open the applicable ENGINE START VALVE circuit breaker on the P6-2 circuit breaker panel and attach a DO-NOT-CLOSE tag.
E. Repair the Booster Blades and Vanes

Remove three fan blades (AMM 72-31-02/401).

Examine the dimensions and location of the defects on the leading edge.
(a) Compare the dimensions and location of the damage with the blending limits (Fig. 801).

(3) Do a blending repair of the damage with a soft file or a silicone carbide abrasive stone, grade C150L8V, used dry. For major blending repairs, use the silicone carbide abrasive cloth, grade 150J for prefinishing or grade 180J for finishing.

Do the blending repairs in a longitudinal direction parallel with the length of the vane.
(b)
The leading edge radius of the area you repaired must agree with the initial contour (Fig. 801).
