 5. Abradable Shroud Inspection

 A. Access
 (1)  Location Zones
 506 No. 1 Engine
 606 No. 2 Engine

 B. Make an Inspection of the Abradable Shroud (Fig. 601)

If not already done, do the procedure to prepare for the inspection.

 (2)  
Examine the abradable shroud for damage:


 NOTE: ON ENGINES WITH THE HALLOW GLASS BEAD-LADEN EPOXY (BLUE
____ COLOR) ABRADABLE SHROUD, if the damage is more than the limits below, you can repair the shroud (AMM 72-33-00/801).
 ON ENGINES WITH THE RTV SILICONE (BLACK COLOR) ABRADABLE
 SHROUD,
 you can replace a patch of 24 inches (600 mm) maximum length
 (AMM 72-33-00/801).

 (a)  
Cracks
 1) All cracks are permitted.


 (b)  
Damage other than cracks, grooves, circumferential defects or rubs: 1) Damage not more than the total area of 160 square inches


 (1032 sq cm) with no one area larger than 30 square inches (193 sq cm) is permitted if: a) The maximum axial width is less than 2.5 inch
 (63.5 mm). b) The minimum distance between the areas is equal to the
 maximum dimension of the nearest damaged area. c) The fan case parent metal does not show through.

ABRADABLE SHROUD INSPECTION

 2)  A maximum service extension of 50 cycles or 125 hours is permitted if the damage is more than the above limits and the fan case parent metal does not show through.
 (c)  Grooves in the abradable shroud:
 1)  All damage is permitted if: a) The maximum depth is not more than 0.16 inch (4.0 mm). b) The maximum width of one grooves is not more than
 0.32 inch (8.0 mm).
 c)  A maximum total width of 1.25 inch (32 mm) of grooves with a minimum separation of 0.1 inch (2.5 mm) recorded axially at the same angular position.
 2)  A maximum service extension of 50 cycles or 125 hours is permitted if these conditions are obeyed: a) The maximum depth is not more than 0.20 inch (5.0 mm). b) The maximum width for one groove is not more than 1.3
 inch (33.0 mm). c) A maximum total width of all grooves is not more than
 2.0 inches (50.8 mm).
 3)  A maximum service extension of 25 cycles is permitted with all quantities of damage that are more than the above limits.
 (d)  Circumferential defect up to 360 degrees:
 1)  One single defect is permitted if these limits are obeyed: a) The maximum axial width is not more than 1.5 inches
 (38.1 mm).
 b)  The maximum axial width of the fan case parent metal which shows through is not more than 1.0 inch (25.4 mm) and the metal does not have cracks, dents, or rub marks.
 2)  A maximum service extension of 50 cycles or 125 hours is permitted if these limits are obeyed: a) The maximum axial width is not more than 2.0 inches
 (50.8 mm). b) The maximum axial width of the fan case parent metal is not more than 1.3 inches (33.0 mm)
 3)  A maximum service extension of 5 cycles is permitted if the damage to the abradable shroud is more than the above limits.
 (e)  
Rubs
 1) All rubs are permitted.


 (f)  
Rough surfaces on the shroud surface
 1) All rough areas on the shroud are permitted.

 (3)  Do the procedure to put the airplane back to its usual condition.
