4. Connecting Link on the Actuation Ring to the Variable Stator Vanes Removal__________________________________________________________________________ and Installation________________
A. General
(1)
This procedure gives the removal and installation procedures for the eight (four for each side) connecting links.
(2)
Use the links to attach the VSV actuation rings that are split together.
(a) Give the attach points for the bellcrank adjustable links.
(3)
An example procedure is given for the one connecting link and applies to all the links.

E. Remove the Connecting Link to the VSV Actuation Ring (Fig. 803)

Make sure the start levers are in the CUTOFF position.
(a) Install the DO-NOT-OPERATE tags.
(2)
Open the right and left fan cowl panel (AMM 71-11-02/201).

THRUST REVERSERS. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS, INJURY
TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
(3) Open the right and left thrust reverser (AMM 78-31-00/201).

CAUTION:_______DO NOT TURN, ADJUST OR DISASSEMBLE THE ADJUSTABLE LINK. IF YOU DO MOVE THE ADJUSTABLE LINK, YOU MUST RIG THE ADJUSTABLE LINK AGAIN. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS PRECAUTION, INCORRECT ENGINE OPERATION CAN OCCUR.
(4)
Remove the D-head bolt and nut that attach the bellcrank adjustable
link to the connecting link.

(5)
Remove the bolts that attach the connecting link to the actuation
ring segments, and remove the connecting link.
NOTE: There is a locating pin at each end of the connecting link.

(6) Remove the straight pin and the headed pin from the connecting link
and (or) the ring segment.
(a) Keep the pins.
NOTE: In some cases the straight pin can be held in the ring
____ segment, with Loctite 290 adhesive. It is not necessary to remove the pin.
F. Install the Connecting Links to the VSV Actuation Ring (Fig. 803)

(1) Install the straight pin (no head) as follows:
NOTE: If you did not install the pin, you can bond the straight pin
____ to the ring segment with Loctite 290 adhesive. This can prevent the loss of the pin during a future removal. Do not apply the adhesive to the connector side of the pin.
(a)
On the right side of the engine, install the straight pin on the top actuation ring segment.
