 (3)  ENGINES POST-CFMI-SB 72-811; Examine the O-rings and bal seal, as follows (Fig. 203):
 (a)  
For the starter pad, examine the O-ring for the seal housing (OD) and the bal seal (ID) for the rotating ring. 1) If you find cuts, nicks, or other damage to the O-ring or

 bal seal, replace the O-ring or bal seal.

 (b)  
Examine the O-rings for the seal housing (OD) and rotating ring (ID) for these components:


 -fuel pump pad
 -hydraulic pump pad
 -constant speed/AC generator pad
 -VSCF generator/converter pad
 1)  If you find cuts, nicks, or other damage to the O-ring, replace the O-ring.

 CAUTION: USE CLEAN, LINT-FREE GLOVES WHEN YOU TOUCH THE SEALOL SEALS.
_______ THIS WILL PREVENT CONTAMINATION.
 CAUTION:_______SEALOL SEALS ARE ALIGNED ASSEMBLIES. IF YOU CAUSE DAMAGE TO A COMPONENT OF THE SEAL, YOU MUST REPLACE ALL OF THE SEAL.
 CAUTION:_______DO NOT MIX CONFIGURATIONS OF THE SEALOL SEAL. DAMAGE TO THE SEAL CAN OCCUR. THERE ARE TWO CONFIGURATIONS OF SEALOL SEAL (PRE-CFMI-SB 72-811 AND POST-CFMI-SB 72-811). THE O-RING OR BAL SEAL IS MATCHED TO ITS ROTATING RING. THEY ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE.
 (4)  Install the Sealol seal:
 NOTE: CFMI SB 72-811 introduced a new configuration of sealol
____
 seal. Make sure you use the correct seal for the aircraft
 configuration.

 (a)  ENGINES PRE-CFMI-SB 72-811; Do the steps that follow: 1) If you do not replace the O-rings, apply a light layer of
 clean engine oil on the O-rings (Fig. 203).
 2)  If you replace the O-rings, install the new O-rings (Fig. 203): a) Apply a light layer of clean engine oil on the O-rings. b) Install the O-rings in the grooves on the seal housing
 (OD) and rotating ring (ID).

3)  Apply a light layer of clean engine oil on bearing surfaces of the gear shaft (Fig. 203): a) Apply the oil on the bearing surfaces of the gear shaft
 which will touch the O-ring on the rotating ring.
 CAUTION: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU INSTALL THE BAL SEAL IN THE GROOVE OF
_______ THE SEALOL SEAL ROTATING RING. THE BAL SEAL CAN EASILY BE DAMAGED.
 CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE OPENING OF THE BAL SEAL IS TOWARD THE TABS
_______ OF THE SEALOL SEAL ROTATING RING. FAILURE TO DO THIS CAN CAUSE OIL LEAKAGE THROUGH THE SEAL.
 (b) ENGINES POST-CFMI-SB 72-811; Do the steps that follow (Fig. 203): 1) For the starter pad O-ring and bal seal: a) Apply a light layer of clean engine oil to the O-ring and bal seal before you install (or re-install) them. b) Install the O-ring in the groove on the seal housing (OD) and the bal seal in the groove on the rotating ring (ID). 2) For the fuel pump pad, hydraulic pump pad, constant speed drive/AC generator pad, and VSCF generator/converter pad: a) Apply a light layer of clean engine oil to the O-rings before you install (or re-install) the O-rings. b) Install the O-ring in the groove on the seal housing (OD) and rotating ring (ID). 3) Apply a light layer of clean engine oil on the bearing surfaces of the gear shaft. a) Apply a light layer of oil to the bearing surfaces that
 will touch the seal on the rotating ring.
 CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE POLISHED FACE OF THE ROTATING RING AND THE
_______ CARBON FACE OF THE SEAL HOUSING ARE CLEAN. LEAKS WILL RESULT IF PARTICLES, EVEN OF A VERY SMALL SIZE, ARE BETWEEN THESE PARTS DURING THE INSTALLATION.
 (c)  
Apply a layer of clean engine oil to the carbon seal face of the seal housing (Fig. 203).
