(6) S 358-039-C00Stop drill the end of the cracks in the fairing with a 0.127-0.128 inch (3.23-3.25 mm) drill (No. 30). (a) Remove the burr on the fairing.
(7) S 038-047-C00Remove the bolts that attach the rear cover to the midstream fairing (Fig. 806). (a) Remove the rear cover.
(8) S 328-048-C00Machine the two plates (refer to Fig. 806). (a) Make sure you align the plates with the inner and outer contour of the midstream fairing.
(9) S 428-049-C00Install the plates on the midstream fairing. (a) Make sure that the plates are flat against the midstream fairing and they stay in their position.

(10) Drill and counter-drill the plates and midstream fairing with a 0.160-0.164 inch (4.06-4.17 mm) diameter drill (Fig. 806).
(a) Remove the burr from the plates and midstream fairing to a chamfer of 0.016-0.020 inch (0.41-0.51 mm).

(11) Use Cherry Lock rivets, CR2663-5-3 or NAS1398C5-3, to rivet the plates together.
(a) Make sure you lubricate the rivets before the installation.
NOTE: Rivets are lubricated by the manufacturer with a special
____ lubricant. The lubricant can be damaged by too much heat, degreasing fluids and cleaning liquids.

(12) Examine the rivet installation as follows:
(a) Make sure the heads engage correctly (Fig. 807).
1) A thin opening between the head and the seating surface is permitted, if you follow these steps: a) The maximum clearance width for the heads that come out
of the fairing is not more than 0.004 inch (0.10 mm). b) Put a feeler gage that is 0.002 inch (0.05 mm) thick below the countersunk head. c) Make sure the feeler gage does not touch the rivet stem. d) Make sure the rivet head touches a minimum of 60 percent of the circumference.
CAUTION: DO NOT REMOVE THE MATERIAL FROM THE TOP OF THE COUNTERSUNK
_______ HEADS TO MAKE THEM SMOOTH WITH THE SURFACE. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS PRECAUTION, DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
(b) Do a visual check for smooth countersunk heads. 1) A countersunk head that comes out of the fairing 0.004 inch
(0.1 mm) is permitted.
CAUTION: DO THIS PROTRUSION CHECK BEFORE YOU SMOOTH THE STEM AND
_______ COLLAR WITH THE SURFACE. DO NOT REMOVE THE MATERIAL FROM THE LOCKING COLLARS TO MAKE THEM SMOOTH WITH THE SURFACE. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS PRECAUTION, DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
(c) Do a protrusion check of the stem and the collar (Fig. 808).
1) Make sure the stem and collar are in the protrusion limits (Fig. 808).
NOTE: After the stems break, you can smooth the stems that
____ come out of the fairing, if you do not cause damage to the rivet heads.
