Prepare for the Removal


 S 014-002
 (1)  
Remove the access panels 9512 and 9514 from the vertical stabilizer.

 S 014-003

 (2)  
Remove the rudder nose cover 9559 and the seal from the right side of the vertical fin.

 (3)  
Open the access door 9510.

 (4)  
Install the rig pin R-5.

 (5)  
Open these circuit breakers and attach DO-NOT-CLOSE tags:

 (a)  
P18-1 Panel
 1) YAW DAMPER AC
 2) YAW DAMPER DC


 D.  
Remove the Power Control Unit

 CAUTION: DO NOT REMOVE THE UNIONS AND REDUCER FITTINGS FROM THE PCU
_______ PORTS WHEN DISCONNECTING THE HYDRAULIC LINES BECAUSE THAT WILL INCREASE THE POSSIBILITIES FOR CROSS CONNECTION OF THE LINES DURING INSTALLATION.
 (1)  
Disconnect the hydraulic lines from the PCU:

 (a)  
Put a container below the hydraulic connections.

 (b)  
Disconnect the hydraulic lines from the PCU.

 (c)  
Install the plugs in the hydraulic lines and the caps on the port fittings.

 (d)  
Install a tag on the hydraulic lines to make sure you install them correctly.

 (2) Disconnect the electrical connector from the PCU (Fig. 401).

 CAUTION: MAKE SURE TO REMOVE THE VERNIER CONTROL ROD BEFORE THE POWER
_______ CONTROL UNIT. FAILURE TO REMOVE THE VERNIER CONTROL ROD FIRST CAN CAUSE DAMAMGE TO THE ROD.
 (3)  
Remove the vernier control rod.

 S 024-010

 (4)  
Remove the PCU:

 (a)  
Remove the rod end bolt that connects the rod assembly to the rudder.


 CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOU HOLD THE PCU DURING THE REMOVAL OF THE
_______ FORWARD MANIFOLD. THE PCU CAN FALL. THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE PCU.
 (b)  
Remove the clevis bolt that connects the forward end of the manifold.

 (c)  
Remove the PCU from the airplane.

 (5)  
Install the rudder lock.
