(1)
Disconnect the hydraulic lines from the actuator.

(2)
Put caps on the hydraulic lines and the actuator ports to keep contamination out.

Disconnect the input rod from the actuator.
S 024-008
(4)
Disconnect the forward end of the actuator from the structure of the vertical fin.

(5)
Disconnect the aft end of the actuator from the rudder.

(6)
Remove the actuator from the airplane.

Procedure

(1)
Make sure the bearings and bolts for the standby rudder actuator are not worn too much (Ref 27-21-24/601).

Put the actuator in its position.

Install the bolts, the washers, the nylon wear washers (on the aft end of the PCU connection only) and the nuts to attach the actuator to the airplane (Fig. 401).
NOTE: The quantity of the wear washers is as the clearance allows.
____ The maximum number of washers allowed is 3.
(a)
If you use a castellated nut at the aft (rudder) end of the actuator, tighten it to 130-180 pound-inches. 1) Install a cotter pin for the nut.
(b)
If you use a self-locking nut at the aft (rudder) end of the actuator, tighten it to 400-500 pound-inches.
(c)
Tighten the nut on the forward (vertical fin) end of the actuator to 500-600 pound-inches. 1) Install a cotter pin for the nut.

Remove the caps from the hydraulic lines and the ports.

Connect the hydraulic lines to the actuator.
