1. General_______
A. This procedure has one task. The task is a test of the elevator balance panel.
B. The test is the same for the left or the right elevator.

Spring scale (compression type) - 0-15 pound capacity, in 1 pound increments

Loading block - 17 inches long, 2 inch x 4 inch wood block

Scale - 0-2 feet, in inches and tenths of an inch increments

Scale - 0-6 inches, in tenths and hundredths of an inch increments

Procedure
(1)
Remove the elevator hydraulic systems A and B (AMM 27-31-00/201).

Use the trammel bar to set the B dimension at 41.57 |0.05 inches (Fig. 501).

Move the control columns fully forward and attach DO-NOT-MOVE tags.
(a)
Make sure the control columns are held in this position.

CAUTION:_______ DO NOT PERMIT THE INNER RACE OF THE CRANK BEARING TO TURN TO A
POSITION WHERE THE ROLLERS CAN FALL THROUGH THE HOLE IN THE
INNER RACE. THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.

Remove the bolts that attach the aft end of each elevator control pushrod to its elevator (Fig. 502).

Remove the DO-NOT MOVE tags and move the control columns fully aft to the stops:
(a)
Remove the clevis of the elevator control pushrod from the elevator.
(b)
Make sure the control columns are held in this position and attach the DO-NOT-MOVE tags.

Measure the breakaway forces:
(a)
Hold a loading block against the elevator rear spar adjacent to the elevator inboard rib.
(b)
Push the loading block by hand until the trailing edge of each elevator aligns with the index mark, then release (Fig. 502).
