(c) The seals and the seal attachment plates from each side of the fin at the rudder balance weight.

Install the rudder sling:
(a)
Remove the seal segments from the trailing edge of the vertical fin near hinges 4 and 5.
(b)
Remove the bearing bars from hinges 4 and 5.
(c)
Remove the hinge segments for hinges 4 and 5 from the vertical fin.
(d)
Connect the rudder sling to the rudder at hinges 4 and 5.
(e)
Assemble the rudder sling as shown (Fig. 402).
(f)
Connect the crane to the rudder sling.

Attach ropes to the rudder to pull the rudder away from the airplane when you remove it.

Disconnect these components from the rudder:
(a)
The power control unit (PCU)
(b)
The standby actuator
(c)
The bonding jumper you find approximately 5.5 inch below hinge 7
(d)
The bonding jumper from hinge 3.

AIRPLANES WITH A RUDDER POSITION TRANSMITTER; Disconnect the aft end of the transmitter control rod from the rudder.

Remove the hinge bolts from hinges 2, 3, and 6.
(a)
Remove the bolts, shims, and washers that connect the bearing bar for hinge 2 to the rudder.

WARNING: MAKE SURE THE CRANE WILL HOLD THE RUDDER IN A STABLE POSITION
_______ WHEN YOU REMOVE THE HINGE BOLTS. ACCIDENTAL RUDDER MOVEMENT WHEN YOU DISCONNECT IT FROM THE AIRPLANE CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(4) Remove the hinge bolts from hinges 1 and 7.

(5) Use the ropes to pull the rudder away from the airplane while you lower it to the ground.
NOTE: The rudder weight is approximately 160 pounds.
