Prepare for the Removal

Remove the power from the rudder hydraulic systems (Ref 27-21-00/201).

Apply some of the grease to the spring slider shaft (Fig. 401).Install the Rudder Feel and Centering Unit

Put the two support brackets, the feel and centering unit, and the upper and lower bearing housings in their correct positions.

Install these components:
(a)
The bolts that connect the support brackets to the airplane
(b)
The bolts that connect the upper bearing housing to the airplane
(c)
The bolts that connect the lower bearing housing to the airplane.

(3) Make sure the inner and outer rods for the feel output rod are not damaged.
NOTE: The feel output rod has two load paths.

Install the bolt assembly that connects the feel output rod to the feel and centering unit crank.
(a)
Tighten the inner nut to 45 to 60 pound-inches.

CAUTION: DO NOT TURN THE INNER NUT WHEN YOU TIGHTEN THE OUTER NUT.
_______ IT IS POSSIBLE FOR THE BOLT ASSEMBLY TO BECOME LOOSE IF THE NUTS ARE NOT INSTALLED CORRECTLY.
(b) Tighten the outer nut to 12 to 15 pound-inches.

Install rig pin R-5 in the feel and centering unit.

Remove rig pins R-3 and R-4 from the forward quadrants.
